Speed Limit Info

I didn't think this was possible in the E89 with its older iDrive. Bit pricey though!

Nice idea but most people most of the time, in their own country, know what the speed limit is, where they are at the moment..the issue is that it does not give any guidance on known speed cameras etc..

I'm all for an integrated approach but since it does not provide any speed camera warnings, unlike say Volvo, then you still need a 3rd party device to help you there..

I use Co-Pilot on my iphone in the Z and I have an ipad in my volvo with it on...

You can tailor the speed cameras warning in terms of range/speed etc and it gives a good heads up plus a better /alternative map to idrive..

I use the waze app in my van, I find that pretty good as it gives speed warnings and camera alerts

Yeah I have a low profile magnetic phone mount stuck to a vent that allows me to have google maps up (which will route past traffic, highlight speed cameras, and indicate speed limit). Unless the car is constantly update-able and able to receive live updates, then its not going to beat a phone system.

Though if you're looking for a speed camera warning system, I think Cheetah or Blackvue do them.

Issue is whether it’s updated when they change, so modern cars with this factory fitted use the car’s collision / intelligent light image recognition cameras on signs for this, coupled with GPS as a base point of reference

Speed limit info is built into the HUD on our X6 and in my view is very handy.
You can easily miss a speed limit sign post and not know the speed limit on the road you are on, this gives the info you may need.
The design of roads used to give you an idea of the speed limit with street lights and central reservations but the limits can be anything now depending on what they want to make them.

Bimmer-tech says it works of the navigation maps in iDrive so they advise to keep the maps updated for this to work efficiently. I am just amazed that our E89s with their older tech / idrive can actually have this feature. Somehow I thought it would only apply to the newer F series cars. I agree though it really isn't worth almost $400.

It says that its for E89 but when you enter your VIN, It says not compatible. Mine has idrive etc....and is a 2015...
I just use Waze or Here we go maps...
