Speed Cameras?

I use Waze for nav and it includes speed cameras - don't think I've ever seen one that it has missed, although being a social network it is susceptible to fake reports.

But, being completely honest here, I try and stay within +10% of the limit unless I'm going through residential areas or directly through a camera, in which case I'll make sure I'm under. 30mph in a 20mph zone is pretty uncool.

Otherwise you end up in situations where you're being pushed down the motorway by an angry dad, or stuck in the slow lane with the lorries. Having cruise control for the first time also made me realise how much people slow down when going up hills and speed up on the other side!

being in the low/relatively small zed helps with managing your speed, particularly at motorway speeds. Larger cars mask your perception of speed more so your more reliant on the speedo.

Around where I general commute/drive on local roads, so Greater Manchester we have an infestation of these annoying little Smart cars with periscope cameras on the top as well as speed camera vans. Camera vans seem reasonably well behaved but the Smart Cars just park where they want, usually near bus lanes and the like. Friend of mine came home to find a right little bitch parked over his driveway in one of these blocking the entire width of the pavement. he beeped and flashed her to move so he could get on his drive, she wouldn't move claiming she had "permission from the police" to park there. When he told he was GMP( Manchester Police) and showed her his ID he told her "no you dont now piss off!" she quickly vanished and he's never seen her or a Smart car anywhere near there again! I do wish I been there to see the little Nazi get handed her arse!"

..... as everyone on here is aware, I was a awarded a special certificate honouring my ability to drive at just over 100 mph by my local police department. I have found that by having this certificate and the really generous gift of points I received, an excellent way of avoiding speeding problems ............. I now pay attention and behave myself :rofl:

Yes Tom Tom Europe does have European Speed Cams

And the gendarmes will confiscate it if your caught using it , unless you've turned off the camera detection function
And no , I've no idea what they do when you have built in nav with the same function , I don't argue with men and women who carry guns for a living :lol:

My Tom Tom dosnt work in France then you cross the border to Belguim and they work again.

A good can of spray paint over the lens should sort most types. Might need a ladder and a hack saw, for some though. :wink:

Alternately obey the speed limits and keep your eyes peeled.

tractor tyre, couple of slices of hay, and a gallon of petrol would probably work also....... so im led to believe.

Thank you all for your answers. I will go with the TOMTOM solution probably. However I see that lots of you guys are obeying the speed limits. I don't want to offend someone but honestly how do you manage that?
The reason that you buy a fast car is to go fast at least IMO. Otherwise why to buy it?

Depends what you mean by go fast. We have favourite roads which are a real challenge at licence friendly speeds - we call them twisties and the real challenge for me is driving these roads as quickly as is safe depending upon the road conditions. Most of the hoons we hold in the Newcastle area are on such roads. It's common sense really - we want to continue enjoying our driving so spirited but safe is the way on the road and to do that you need to search out the best drivers roads. If you just want to drive fast, well my Skoda will do about 130 and get me band from driving for a time! I enjoy my back roads too much to do that!
If you want to drive fast then the best place is the track - plenty of forum members able to advise you on that.

Funny enough, I don't really enjoy tracks that much. I have done 3 in total now, and yes, it is quite nice - but a bit boring after a while going around circles.

On the other hand, nice country side or mountains - that I find much more enjoyable and that does mean ignoring the limits to some extend. Generally do the real enjoyment abroad though to enjoy the freedom of your license a bit.
