what do you guys make of this, the same police driver i mentioned the other day that told me that new laws mean that manufacturers cannot enable dsc to be totally disabled Also told me this....... that speed cameras that are placed in the central reservation are no longer allowed to be used, they have to be on the nearside of the carriageway, i did'nt catch the exact reason, whether its a health and safety issue or what, i dont know. he wants to take my 4mc for a drive so i will try and get him to explain the reason, and also it it applys everywhere, when i asked him about a camera flashing my daughter in cardiff , he said it may not have had film in, i thought they were now digital, he says no way they cant afford digital cameras, so dont know what to think. :( i also know of a camera on the nearside with a canvas cover on saying not in use, i wonder why they would tell motorists this instead of leaving it uncoverd as a detterent , the ones he mentioned on the central reservation btw are not covered !!! any ideas or opinions :(

The very small ones like this that you see around Bristol are digital I believe...

There were even some that were capable of transmitting the pic real time. The press at the time was that your ticket could be in the post before you got home :o

I can say that having been on the UK launch event of the Toyota GT86 that a main selling feature of their TC system was that it can be switched off AND unlike every other road car being produced does not reset. It stays OFF until switched back on. They were proud of that feature!

There are lots of digital cameras around - the teeny ones you see more and more of, and the ones that face you on your carriageway are digital I believe. The older more common ones with a flash have two holes you can see in the back as you approach, used for ventilation. Apparently if you can see they are open (you see a gap round the edge of the hole) they are on, if you can't it is off. But I don't know for sure if that's true. As for middle of the carriageway, don't know, but there are a couple I pass regularly that are infrequently turned round, so I assumed they were being used...

The average speed camera's are both digital and in the central reservation on a38 after Lichfield

Two thoughts....

Firstly....when he drives your 4mc, make him go past one at a faster than holy speed...i.e., put his money where his mouth is.

Secondly....I personally wouldn't risk it. If he's wrong, then what are you going to say in court? "But PC plod told me they were switched off".
