I have to go over 4 speed bumps every time I leave and return home. When I go over the last one on the way out something underneath the car makes a tiny scrub which is a little worrying. Anybody else having this problem? Any idea what's hitting as I can't see any marks.
I think you'll find there is some sort of a 'guard' which is in place beneath the exhaust to 'warn' you that you're getting 'close'...! It is that which is catching.
It might be a pain, take you longer and drive other road users nuts, BUT have you tried traversing the ramps diagonally?
This usually ensures a higher 'clearance' with no scraping.
I have exactly the same issue and suffer many of these blasted ramps and I deliberately reduce to agonisingly slow speeds when crossing them. I am sure it upsets others. But after all, I am the one responsible for my car and I have no time for those other road users who have a total mechanical disregard for the damage being done by ramps.
Incidentally, damage to the sacrificial trim beneath front valance can also be mitigated by this 'diagonal' technique when you meet acute (that's acute, not a cute) approach/exit angles in car parks with stupidly steep up/down ramps.
Ramps, chicanes and the likes are the bane of modern motoring. They are arcane and destructive. They should all be removed and replaced by "Average Speed Cameras" through quiet villages, by schools etc., with say a 20mph speed limit. Brilliantly simple.
This technology is now proven and available to councils everywhere.
