Speed Activated Cornering Sign

One of the more interesting corners close to home has just had one of these installed (although without the t-junction bit!)

It's speed activated, and I'm sure it's childish and yet I'm driven to find out exactly what speed sets it off. So far as I can tell though, it's going off at a speed that's comfortable (although fast) in our sponge-suspension-spec'ed Focus. I think it's safe to assume everytime I pass it in the Z4 it's going to be telling me to slow down from now on. It's the sort of corner where 90% of traffic goes really slow anyway, so I'm really hoping it's not going to encourage people to go even slower :!:

There's a similar sign on the slip road off the M25 southbound onto the A2 - says Slow at the top and Down at the bottom, bracketing a 40mph sign. I think it is speed activated as I'm sure I have seen it off when continuing on the M25... But it is always on as I go past it at about 65-70... For a motorway corner it's quite a fun one

I like the warning of a junction on the one above though - makes sense, and will catch your eye. If not your loud foot :D

There's a similar one in a nearby village to me - New York (no, not that one) - that flashes "40" at oncoming traffic coming our of a 60 zone. Only thing is, you see people accelerating towards it to beat the flashes :?

Funnily enough the corner it is on is in a 60 zone, and I've never seen or heard of an accident on that road, yet a mile down the road there's a easier bend in a 40 zone - and it has a permanent wreath next to it.

People usually crawled around the '60' bend where as people completely ignore the 40 signs on the other one to the point where there's been a fatality. And which one gets a warning sign?! Just makes no sense to me.

There's been one near the Belfry on the A446 for years. It's a great sweeping bend and a personal challenge to ensure it's illuminated every time :driving:

There are several speed actuated signs down here in surrey - some just warning/re-iterating a speed change - what hacks me off is when you go through them at or below the speed limit and they still activate :headbang:

There is one (I think) at J8 of the M25 as you come down reigate hill at the top... road bends right at the same time as there it starts going down hill. it too has a complex junction at the same point (gatton bottom if people know it). Recently they erected loads of fence along the side of the road to blind us and try and slow us down on the approach - all that did was increase the accident rate as people came up the hill couldn't see  Fortunately they saw sense and removed the fences...

Just had a thought - I've had a personal one of these in the passenger side of every car I have owned over the last few years. Spooky :?
