Speakers cutting out - amp fault?

Hello all,

Having problems with my audio setup, think its an early dsp system but I dont have the church etc options on headunit.

Speakers are cutting in an out at high volume, I think lowering the treble does stop the issue as much.

Guessing this means my amp is on its way out?

Are these ever repairable or is it game over?

My amp model number is 6936952, cant see any replacements available but what other models are compatible?

Many thanks

Sounds like you have the midrange system and not the carver DSP system, does the amp say carver dsp on the sticker?

Is it located by the battery in the boot?

Does sound like an amp issue i'm afraid.

The carver amps can be fixed (if not water logged) by SVT in Edinburgh

My problem (carver dsp) sounded similar, turned out to be an intermittent shorted tweeter wire in the drivers door..

Mike

It does say carver on it yes. I think it may be an early version or something?

Ahh thats interesting Mike as the passenger tweeter has no input at all from what I can tell. Will check that first. Is it easy to get to?

Just wanted to know what other DSP amps may be compatible?

very easy to get to, just unclip the triangle on the door (push up if i remember correct). there's also a connector there

OK nothing looks loose in the tweeter but it is dead so will order another now.

Rear left sub is making a popping sound. However when balance all the sound to the right, it sounds great and works fine even turned up to max bass treble and volume.

Guess Ill look for sub too then. Cheaper than the amp I guess or does it still sound like an amp issue with everything on the left hand side?

Tweeters were about £70 each from bmw, and according to real oem are now discontinued.

I may have a single one lying around, minus the casing, but it just clips into the casing and they are the same either side.

OK cheers, will check em again for a part number.

Mike that would be brilliant if you have? BTW thats not you on ebay selling the speaker pack is it?

Yup.

I'll have a look in the garage for that tweeter when I get home later.

Mike

Thanks much appreciated.

Ahhh I see, that was myself who emailed you earlier. Im tempted by them, guessing you wouldnt split the subs out seperately?

No worries cheers for looking. Do they have to be bmw tweeters or is there anything better I can put in place?

I've still not checked them again for a part number.

If I plug the drivers side tweeter into the passenger side door that should tell me whether its the speaker or not yes?

That would help ,if still no sound try the one you believe is faulty in other side, as it could be a break in the cable

The one tweeter is definitely broken, swapping it out doesn't help but put the working one in the passenger side and it works fine.

Also think the one rear sub has died as it keeps popping.

Have attached a photo of the part number of my tweeter, can't see any on ebay that match and don't really want to spend £70 on one from BMW if they even have any. Are they any recommended upgraded tweeters that would be worth getting instead?

Mike I've sent you an email thanks.

Email replied to.

Regarding the tweeters, as they just clip into the back of the plastc quadrant, something like this might work?
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271502702358

There is also a genuine one here

Not sure if it's the correct side, but you could swap it over.
