Speaker sizes

Hey all, I've tried searching but cant find anything that covers what I'm after.

I need to find out the dimensions and depth of the speakers so I can upgrade mine, I have the standard system which I got on purpose as it makes life easier. I've tried google but with no luck :(

Also are all the speaker standard fit? Or do you need those silly three point adapters like the 3 series?

Cheers :) Loving my Z so far

Hi

The Footwell speakers are 160mm diameter by 70 mm depth (although theres plenty of room behind), the door and rears are 100mm x 45mm (again depth is not to much of an issue), tweeter are 35mm x 10mm, and yes the standard 100mm speakers are 3 point fit, but in your case that only applies to the rears as there are no speakers in the doors just grill fronts with the standard system, the footwell ones are 4 point fixing , but its not an issue putting in standard 4 point speakers, just have to make new holes.

hmm wondering if I should just get a 3 way comp and ignore the mids behind the seats, for the life of me I cant find 4" mids lol and decent ones only seem to come as part of a 3 way comp set.

I have 2 10" subs I will stick in the boot, they are ID Max's so they pack one hell of a punch, will probably fabricate a nice box and use just 1 though. Don't think they will fit in the original sub ports, they look more like 8" so I might just cut holes in them and shove a port into each one and 2 ports in the back plate in the boot to let the air flow through to the cabin.

Anyone got links to a good walk through? I'm going to get an installer to do all the cables and stick the amps in there for me. Wondering if I should bother with the rear mids or not.

Edit: Also which steering interface works with the Z4? can I use the 3 series one? I cant find a retailer that sells one for the Z4 :(

Not sure on the interface as I don't have steering wheel controls in my car. I wouldn't bother with the rear mids though, there's plenty of sound from upgrading the front speakers. A 3 way component set would be nice but I was lazy and went for a 2 way speaker. Next on my shopping list is the imprint processor for my 9886r headunit.

Well I've gone for the 3 Way component route for the fronts.....Rainbow SLC 365's for £300 - not got them in yet, but I'll update you with a review once they are!

I've also gone for the 6.5" JL 6W3V3-4 subs in the two stock positions behind the seats....apparently they arent as powerful as having a boxed sub in the boot....but I'll be obviously sound dampening the cubby holes pretty well and it does saves me boot space... and to be honest i'm not bothered about huge amounts of base (at my age! ;) lol

OOI - I've gone with a JVC KD-R 901 Head Unit with the DAB Add-on...so I've bought me the dual Aerial, which is DAB and FM(although I hear the coverage is a bit crap when driving)...it has bluetooth integrated, 2way Ipod contol and its obviously DAB ready - thought that fitted the bill for my needs!
