Speaker quote - rip off or the going rate?

I've obtained a quote to upgrade my basic speaker set up to the Professional spec from an Independent company

They have quoted me :

To upgrade the front midrange speakers , and the front tweeters to HIFI pro version.
Add amplification to drive these new speakers and code the car - supply/fit / code - £942 inc vat

Is this a good price ?
Seemed a bit pricey to me

Don't do it. They are not worth it. Have a look at these instead.

I'm using these for the mid only

With these for the tweeter and new kick well woofer

I'm keeping the subs, and not using the rears or centres in mine.

Note BMW use 2ohm speakers to get more power out of a low power amp, so the BMW pro speakers with a new amp might not give you the result you are looking for. Also note the BMW pro amp has a software glitch in the DSP, which is repeated on many other bmw, which distorts the mid range on certain frequencies (female vocals often do it) even at low volumes, BMW will tell you that you are turning it up too much but you are not so don't go with the BMW amp. However good alternatives can get expensive! I'm waiting on a new amplifier from Indice / Mobridge (i'll be a beta tester :o ) to drive the new setup plus a Mobridge MOST DSP to interface with the iDrive. The amplifier is due any time now, but I'm not going to get much change if any from £3k. But it will sound great!

I'd offer to sell you the pro speakers that are coming out of mine but you will have to wait until mine is done which is a few weeks away, plus the Focals would be so much better. Plus I may want to keep hold of them so I can put it all back and take the focals and amp with me if I change the car. I'd also expect that they are not that much on real OEM, after all the whole pro speaker option is only £800, not that it's worth it.

To be honest even without knowing exactly what amp / dsp setup you are going for I couldn't say if £942 inc vat is good value or not, if the speakers are £30 each that's £120 for 2 tweets and 2 mids, add £450 for an amp and £350 for labour and it's not that far off .
