Having flummoxed myself with subjective internet reviews I thought I would turn to my fellow zedders for some advice (also posted on PH).
I have a pair of Kef 35.2 floor standing speakers driven by a trusty Ion Obelisk 200 amp. Previously I have been running the speakers bi wired using self terminated QED Qudos bi wire cable, 2 banana - 4 banana with link bars removed.
Last night my new tv stand arrived and my old cables no longer reach the new home of the amp (plus are quite bulky and unsightly).
I was given so QED micro which I used to get the system up and running in single wire config, direct bare wire connection to the terminal posts and the link bars put back. It now sounds rubbish and I seek an modern cable which isn't too bulky(ideally can be pinned into a 1cm gap under the fireplace lip). I have checked the phasing and can only suggest the weedy thin cable isn't on par with what I had before; sound is very thin lacking bass weight and seems to have lost detail in the middle too.
I'm unsure if bi wiring still has merit or whether I should ditch the terminal links on the speakers for some short bridges made of the same speaker cable and just have a single cable to each speaker.
I need 3-3.5m runs for each speaker and would usually go for banana terminations.
Any advice on what cables and configurations to consider would be appreciated. I work near southwark tube station in London if anyone also has suggestions on where to purchase or view the cables.
Budget £200 max all in to keep it sensible
Many thanks in advance!
