Spark plugs and Eurocarparts

Nor specifically about my Z4 but it is related to a thread about jerky acceleration. Last years my sons car started to make the most horrendous noise and would hardly move. Mechanics thought it could be something amiss around the timing chain - tensioner etc. After stripping down they couldnt find anything wrong and there were no fault codes showing. Turns out one of the spark plugs had broken up and bits had gone into the bore and caused terminal damage internally. Car is now scrapped. Mechanic said it was not unknown for this to happen and that I probably should not have got them from Eurocarparts as they dont source them from reputable suppliers.
Yesterday my own day car started jerking about but wasnt showing any faultcodes. Investigation showed one of the plugs had broken but at the cermanic end where the coil attaches.
Both were NGK plugs from Eurocarparts fitted less than two years ago and were the more expensive Iridium plugs.
I am now concerned because I have similar plugs fitted in the Zed less than a year ago from Eurocarparts and wonder whether i should ditch them and go elsewhere probably more expensive. Has anyone had similar problems with plugs from ECP or have I just been doubly unlucky. It may also explain why the thread about jerky acceleration has not yet resolved the issue. If there are no faults showing plugs are a likely culprit.
 
ECP will buy any old s**t..

Counterfeit or not doesnt really matter,as long as there is a profit.
 
Counterfeit and low quality sourced products sold under a reputable name are big issues...

I can’t believe real NGK plugs would break up in such a way unless the engine itself had a major issue..

I think those comments would be enough for me to choose another quality parts supplier...Opie/Autodoc/BMW

They seem to stock quality products... :thumbsup:
