I have a 2003 3.o Z with 50,000 miles. For the last several months I have been playing peek-a-boo with the service engine soon light. I finally went in to have the codes downloaded. Misfire, cylinder #3. After a discussion with the service manager we agreed to switch the #3 coil to #1 cylinder and change the plugs. The rational is that if the #3 coil pack is bad then in the light comes back we'll know it's bad if the light comes back and the codes show a #1 cylinder misfire. With regards to the spark plugs, MB recommends plug replacement for their gas engined cars after seven year, regardless of mileage. The thinking here is that it's likely a low mileage car made the same number of trip cycles but of shorter distances. However, the spark plug endured the same number of expansion and contraction cycles that a similar aged vehicle that had a higher average miles per trip.
