Spares or repair. 2004 3.0 SE

Sad times- i have 2004 3.0l SE. Issue is the head gasket and water pump went causing catastrophic engine damage. So currently not running. I had intended to sell it this summer due to an expanding family.

Should i sell as a non runner for parts? (£1500) or install a secondhand engine from an X5 and try for more money?

Offers/thoughts accepted....
 
Sad times indeed - any you've only just joined us! :(

I reckon you'll usually do better getting it fixed and selling it as a runner, unless you get really lucky and find a buyer who wants a project.

I think you could also use an M54 engine from an E46 3 Series or an E39 5 Series.

What is the colour/condition? Not that I’d like to see the car broken as all zs deserve to be loved but there is a member looking for good Stirling grey panels.
