Spare parts cost! Centre Console & Sunglasses Holder

Had a quote for a couple of parts for my recently purchase Z4 Coupe. May help anyone looking for the same.

Sunglasses holder catch has broken and does not open. I don't know how but Piano black centre console got a 1" scratch within a week of ownership, near the ash tray. :-(

Synter BMW High Wycombe

Centre Console Piano black: £148

Sunglasses Holder Assembly: £193

Cost for the sunglasses holder was crazy!

Is there a cheaper option for either? I figured I could recondition the old centre console and likely resell on ebay or forum.

That's a good point Srhutch. Will think about it.

I guess I am thinking if I got to the effort of taking out the centre console myself, then I'd really want to put the new one straight back in, rather than driving around without it for a couple of weeks and forget how to/lose any screws etc..! Plus, rather anally... I think I'd prefer having a stock part fitted.

Hopefully I can fix the sunglasses catch myself!

If anyone has a part number for either this would be helpful.

Realoem is not a good guide to prices - I've no idea where they came from but they've never been right in my experience. The cost of genuine parts is increasing massively now - the cover under the corner of the front bumper cost £20 for me to replace on my old car in 2011... Now it costs £85 :cry:

That is ridiculous for a sunglasses holder though.

I just got an extra first aid box for under the drivers seat that I use for my sunnies, and there's plenty of space left for a phone charger or other random crap you don't want cluttering your car
 
I'm sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I am looking everywhere for just a bloody "Tray for glasses" replacement holder/catch for my E86 Coupe, which user ste_mac82 has been selling on e-bay, but I have no means to contact this user.

Does anybody have any leads where I can find such an item, other than to replace the entire tray for 300-something euros?

I have a spare of the big plastic part of the centre console.

It is free to anyone who’s able to collect it in Kent towards the end of August

Sorry to reply to a post dating back to 2015, just had the same issue on my brand new second hand E86 and it kills me to have it hanging as is.

I cannot find ste_mac's listing .

Is this the same?
