spare key

I only picked up my 2.0 i SE last night, its a 55 plate, this is my mid life crisis I think (my main car is an insignia) it came from a family member who bought it new. Getting slowly to the point, the spare key (I don't mean the little plastic blank) doesn't work, do you think its probably the battery, and is it easy to replace?

try driving it with that key for an hour, if that fails then bm keys can replace the battery

Welcome to the forum

As above, try drive with it in the ignition it for a few hours and see if it does the job.

Also try recoding it to the car. (There is a guide on here somewhere)

My spare was knackered so I ended up getting a new one at £140

No need to buy a replacement key. They are easy to cut in half and solder a new re-chargeable battery inside.

Do as the guys above post, unlock the car with your good key then use the 'dead' key to drive it. After a good run it should work again.

Post the results here and if needed I'll put info up on battery type and how to change it.

you need to change keys on a regular basis

the new samsung galaxy as a charging pad, i wonder if this would work, over the winter i will use my car very little so another way to charger them would be great
