Hi fellow Prestoner!

I thought they were more like double or treble that as BMW have to program it to your car immobiliser....best ring Bowker Preston or Blackburn!

Hello fellow Prestoner, im in the PR4 area you ?, I hope you are wrong about the key.

That sounds right ballpark for the price.
Matched to the car from the limited lifetime supply held in Germany.
IIRC it's 5 keys in total then a complete change of locks
Hopefully they needs lot of documentation and prrof of ID as recently thieves have been reported to be ordering spare keys then just driving off.

To order in UK you need photo ID, proof of address (ie, bill etc), and V5, and drivers lisense (use that as photo ID if you have it)

That is what BMW told me, and I'm still sorting out my photo ID (passport lapsed, still use paper drivers lisense, doh)

£80 + vat give or take, at most dealers, and they would also program my new and old keys for seat specifics etc, and bar the old keys that were provided from new for me, all included in the price!

I got one last month £97 I think. Needed to show V5 and driving license. Took about two days to get. Needs setting up with car when u get it but only takes them a couple of mins.

The guy advised me to alternate keys every 3 months or so as they have rechargable batteries that get charged in the ignition and may go flat if not used.

Wow! I'm shocked the price has gone up so much. Five years ago, I was charged $65 for a key for my 323i. Exact same style key as the Z4 and had to be ordered and programmed.

Last year I had to get another key for my Zed.

I HAD to go to the dealer to get it. The cost, here in the US was $160.00.

They need your VIN number, and registration (to prove it's your car) and send the request to a BMW factory. I had the key in two days....

i used to have a Mazda. i was going to order one of their new switch-blade keys (like VW, Audi, Porsche) and they quoted me something like $200 USD

so i'm not surprised that the bmw key is in that price range

Anyone know how much the non-key for the E92 sedans cost? It's like sticking your kids leggo block into the dash.
