Made it! Santander to Alicante in the Z4, I had covered it twice before in my old 2.8 Z3 the Z4 was more economical I managed 37.1 at a fairly constant 90 mph and did not use any oil or water and it was hot over 42c some days. It was quieter and the sports seats were a lot more comfortable than my old Z3 seats, air con was also a definite bonus, I did around 1500 miles and plan to book the ferry for next year. A couple of issues though have appeared a slight hunting when I start the car up which gives a slightly uneven tickover and a knock when hot, I think it’s what I would call the clutch thrust although I have little mechanical knowledge, as it goes away when you depress the clutch any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

That's an impressive trip, and it sounds like you enjoyed it as you plan to do it again!

The noise that stops when you depress the clutch certainly sounds like a worn clutch thrust bearing (aka release bearing) which is a shame as the gearbox will need to come off to get to it. :(
