newbie to Z4's and struggling with the lack of a spare wheel..........

After sending back a 16'' wheel I have found a 18'' space saver wheel that should fit my 2008 Coupe

when fitted it is annoyingly catching a thin piece of metal that sits behind the brake disc..........

Help please in sourcing the right wheel - that's two I have been through now..........

I think I may have been able to show a picture of the brakes..............

the thin piece of metal behind the disc seems to be the problem........

Generally ‘we’ use 17” space savers from the e46 3 series... that will bolt on and off no probs! 18” is probably from the newer 3 series or maybe even from a 5 series!

I covered it in my thread here somewhere (it’s a big post!). https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=107556

I always understood that all non-Ms only needed a 16" Space-saver if running standard size brakes, apart from the 3.0Si that needed a 17" one (hope that's right as I just sold my 17" one)!

E46 3 Series is a good source for them as most seem to have had a 16" space-saver, apart from the 330i & 330d that had a 17" one because like the 3.0Si Z4 the front brakes are bigger.

An 18" one won't have come from a later 3 Series as the E9* generation models all had run-flats so no space-saver.

I'd be wary of using a 5 Series one as I'm sure I read somewhere that 5 Series wheels had a larger diameter hub centre so need a hub-centric ring - but hopefully someone knows for sure.

Agreed.

Just checked and can't seem to find a 18" for the 3 series E9x and newer F3x range. So the wheel must be from a 4 series, 5 series or even an X1/X5/etc! I've certainly never heard of using an 18" space saver on our cars. You have the added complication that even if the wheel physically fits then the tyre may be too big (the tyres would have to be low profile like your existing car wheel - and I'm certain the tyre size wouldn't match). It may be possible, but I feel it's too much work when you can get a "bolt on/off" solution via a 125/80/17" for around £75-100 from ebay.

Thanks for your responses..............so it was a slightly longer tamper proof wheel bolt causing the problem - hitting the disk.........

and yes also the weld has popped on the disc cover......

......getting a new wheel bolt today to get mobile with the new space saver which I will check into as it only just clears the 3.0si brakes.......

thanks for support
