Space saver spare wheel

I’m looking to get a space saver as I’ve not got run flats any more

Would a space saver from a similar aged 325 work? Stud pattern etc?

I'm not too sure, but a space saver from an E46 3 Series will fit fine.

16" will work on a 3.0i with standard front brakes, but facelift 3.0Sis need a 17" one to clear the bigger front brakes.

I got an E46 17 inch jobbie off Gumtree for £20 as needed a coat of paint. No hardship and checked on the car and all OK. Scissor jack from Silverline for a tenner new or so and had a wheel brace , so done for under £40 including a wheel bag from fleabay to chuck all in

I've never seen the point in space savers. You still have to get the full size in the space if you take it off!

Just another option from the glue and stuff that isnt all that at times. Ever seen a yellow jack holding a car up on a motorway as the puncture has destroyed the tyre and a family up a grass embankment waiting for the AA to get a new tyre ? I have and want to prevent that situation. Yes, you have to put the wheel in the boot and potentially a rear but not always, but at least you can drive to the tyre shop and get it fixed or replaced :wink:

Some interesting thoughts on here.

I had a 17" spacesaver for my 3.0Si but wasn't sure it would work on my MC, so I sold it.

Still I did have a single Style 32 front wheel hanging about so before I did my 4 day trip to Wales last month I got a new tyre fitted to it and slung it in the boot with my breaker-bar, torque wrench and an E46 jack I got from Quarry Motors for £19.99!

Not much boot left though.



Still once turned over I could fill it up with essentials like the jack, cable ties and gaffa tape. :lol:

Where I am, having a flat (unrepairable) tyre can be a lot more than an inconvenience when it's 200km to the next town and it's 45C.

When swapping to non-runflats I reasoned that through all years of motoring, I had never had a total blowout - always a slow leak from a nail or similar and never needed to use a spare tire. Thus a 12V compressor and some sealant would probably cover most situations. Bought the oem mobility kit and been lucky so far (knocking wood...).

I've had 3 completely destroyed tyres in the past few years. All due to low profile tyres and potholes.

I saw a car on the hard shoulder of the M5 with a flat tyre the other day. About 5 miles later I pulled into a service station. Just as I was about to leave, the same car came clip-clopping into the service station on 3 wheels plus a mangled lump of aluminium.

True, but at least a space saver saves a bit of room in the boot the 99% of the time it's not used, I don't mind moving stuff into the passenger footwell to make space for a punctured tyre but I wouldn't want it there all the time.
