Space saver size?

Hi - I am new to the forum.
I have had my Z4 for four years and love everything about it.
It’s 2008 with 48,000 miles.
My query today is what size of space saver wheel should I buy.
I have 18 inch run flats on and I am moving to ordinary tyres still 18 inch so will need a space saver wheel but I have been given conflicting advice from two sources.
My question is what is the best size of space saver and any suggestions where I can get one at a good price
Thanks in anticipation of your help
I live in Northern Ireland

So it's a facelift then.

If it has standard brake sizes you'll need a 16" spacesaver, unless it is a 3.0Si and then you'll need a 17" one to clear the front brakes. (If it's an M I have no idea)!

E46 3 Series all came on non run-flats and had a spacesaver so that's the best thing to look for, but if you need a 17" one it'll need to come from a 330i or 330d as they also had bigger front brakes.

Probably worth trying to get an E46 jack too, and a wheel-brace unless you've got something suitable.

Nearly forgot, welcome to the forum too!

We'd love to see a photo or 2.

Sorry to pick up on an old thread, but just purchased a 17" space saver, and tried to put it in the front passenger cabin and it's a big lump which doesn't go in unless sideways at a weird angle on the seat! I measured the width of the rim and it's 18", so larger than I thought. My idea had been to be able to have the spare on occasions with the tyre deflated in the passenger footwell when carrying luggage, and if I have a passenger they would have their legs slightly higher up!

My car is a 2007 2.5si M sport. Is there any reason this couldn't be the 16" as mentioned above, and I'll have a play around if it really isn't that small? What space saver wheel spec / model could this be / from?

Many thanks so much.

Brake pack size determines minimum emergency tyre size..depends both on the diameter and offset from the brake pack..I have no idea on E85s!

Scott, a 16" space-saver will take up pretty much the same space as a 17" because the smaller rim has a higher profile tyre to get a similar rolling radius.

If your car has the standard front brakes a 16" will work, and will be much easier to find. All E46 3 Series had a space-saver so one of those is the ideal source as they used exactly the same wheel sizes and offsets as E85/86s and they all had a 16" space-saver. The exception was the 330i and 330d which had a 17" because they had the bigger front discs like the 3.0Si Z4s.

Hi there, thanks so much for this, it is what I hoped for. I intend to have the tyre deflated so it takes up a lot less space, if that makes any sense. I have an electric pump on board so this could work to reinflate. Am very grateful as ever for your knowledge and advice. Best wishes Scott
