Really enjoyable trip to the Nurburgring and Spa with Dad.
An early start on Friday morning (4am for Dad) to beat the inevitable queues around Dartford. Bit of a scare when a piece of wood flicked up on the M2, piercing the grille and ending up an inch from the oil cooler, no real damage done thankfully.
Friday night and a huge Pizza and Pasta feast at Pinnochios in Adenau. We stayed in the hotel pictured on the right.
Saturday morning, woken up to the noise of the VLN cars practising, a good view of the track from our bathroom!
Off to the Nurburgring Experience (interactive museum), Currywurst and then watching the VLN race in the afternoon. About four other Z4M taking part; the pace and noise of the AMG SLS, Bentley GT and DTM type racers was impressive.
Check in to the hotel in Nurburg to unload the car, ready to bag an early place in the car park for the track to open for the evenings TF session. Dad perhaps wisely decided not to come out for a lap!
Driven with some caution as I still don't know the place despite having visited most years since 2005. I enjoyed myself and 9 minutes 7 seconds BTG is about as quick as I'd want to go without a lot more knowledge there. Sadly the video is almost unwatchable, just too shaky.
Saturday evening in the Pistenklause at Nürburg for Fillet Steak on a stone with Apple Strudel afterwards. A good walk up to the castle burned off a few calories.......which were then put back on again with a cup of hot chocolate whilst the sun went down! I had a quick walk on the track too whilst chatting to my wife on the phone.
Sunday morning and we drove to Spa to watch the afternoons racing at the Spa Classic. Forecast rain so full waterproofs were worn, in the end they weren't needed with just one shower. Some beautiful cars there but I am pleased to say that the CSCC event we hold in June at Spa is as good in my opinion.
Some of the loudest cars I've ever heard almost painfully so, after an hour of that in the concrete grandstands overlooking the F1 pits we were ready to move on to other parts of the track. The Group C cars were so fast everywhere, particularly when we watched them along Kemmel Straight.
Spotted a couple of nice Ms on display in the paddock
The hotel at Spa was the nicest of the three nights as was the food (Duck a l'orange, and choc mousse for me, Monkfish and Profiteroles for Dad) we were both stuffed and barely managed (!) to scoff down a large breakfast on Monday morning (food was an important part of the trip as you can tell).
12 hours to get home, with the only delay being at Dartford. On Tuesday I got the two front Nankang NS2R tyres swapped over as the inside edges were becoming 'sawtoothed', not something I've had a problem with in any car for years. A brilliant way to spend 4 days: cars, food and good company. Happy Birthday Dad!
