Southern UK meet (Hampshire) - Sun 5/4/09

I would be up for a meet once I've got my car. Maybe not by this time, but perhaps the next one. I also don't mind organising, as I have organised a few meets/drives on Pistonheads, which have all gone well.

I always find it works best if you write up a table for people to work from, with around 6-8 weeks worth of dates, then go for the date that most people can make. Obviously needs to be posted by the organiser, based on their availability. People quite often get booked up, especially coming into summer, so planning so far in advance means more people can come.

Would those coming rather do a lot of driving or are you more up for admiring each cars and having a chat? Obviously both is a good option but I don't want to do a big mileage route if people aren't up for it, particularly if you've had a long drive to reach the route in the first place.
I drove some awesome roads around Salisbury this weekend, but they might be a bit far for you from Sussex? I don't want to go too far east either though cos MarkN is from Weymouth. The A272/Midhurst area seems like a good central point. I need to do a reckie and find some nice places to stop off along the way unless there are any suggestions.
I have only done one cruise, and for me there was to much driving, dont get me wrong I love driving but I can do that on my own, I want to chat with other members face to face see what they have done to their cars etc as well.

Ok here's my plan, please feel free to criticize and amend! I reckon its about an hours driving, depending on traffic. Does that sound long enough?
Start Alton (10 ish) at Focus car park (postcode GU34 2QS) where we can spread out and admire cars and there is sometimes a burger van for a cuppa, but I can't garuntee it. Also no loos...
Then the route
1. A339 to Basingstoke (this is a brilliant road - really windy but with opportunities to overtake). It definitely needs to be driven first to minimise the amount of traffic encountered. I drove it last night and it took a fruity 10 mins but can take about 30 if stuck in a procession of cars.
2. A30/A33 toward Winchester. A33 is a roman road. I've not been down either of these but the roman road should be good for gettting nice views of the z4s
3. Brief stint on the A34 / A31
4. A272 towards Petersfield
5. A32 back uptowards Alton. Another great road
Finish up in a pub for a spot of lunch?

Starting point is Focus carpark, Alton (just off the A31) postcode GU34 2QS. I'm sure we'll be there for quite a bit while we wait for everyone to get there and to have a good look at the cars.
End point is still a bit undecided. We're going to stop at a pub but I'll wait to see final numbers and then phone up and book a table. Probably the Rose and Crown in Upper Farringdon though.
