I always wonder if there is alcohol involved.

I work on the principle. Ask a silly question, try and give a funny answer.

Come on guys. OP has a 2.5Si auto. The doors sound crap when they close (mine do too). How can he make them sound a bit more high quality, i.e. a thunk rather than a clatter? He’s also Danish, so give him a bit of latitude on the language. This is supposed to be a helpful forum.

You can buy sound deadening material online and apply them to the inside of your doors (on the inside metal). You'll have to take off both door cards, airbag, and slice around the vapor barrier membrane in the door to gain access...

So buy new vapor membranes as well because sometimes once you cut into them they'll never seal up right and you'll have a wet carpet every time it rains.

It's a pretty easy job though

TBF the OP has a point. The doors on my Z4 sound very tinny compared to my 3 Series. Maybe it's because the Z4 was built in the US and the 3 was built in Germany?

If I ever have a reason to remove a door card I'd want to add some sound deadening to the Z.

something like this. (Speaker install optional). it's on my list of things to do

Thank you for understanding

I can ask you the same.

Don't worry about Pondy. It's in his genes.
He thought a Fiat Barchetta was a kind of artisan bread.

What does a wind up mean?
My native is Danish. We can continue in that if you like.
To wind someone up means to say something deliberately to annoy them.
I would hope you can see past the instantaneous reactions of some people. I suspect they read the title and misunderstood. Initially, without realising your nationality, it does kind of sound like you want your BMW door to sound like a fiat one when it closes. :)

The later replies, pointing you towards the installation of soundproof panels should be the answers you were hoping for.

Jeg beklager din uhøflige velkomst
(I admit, Google Translate helped me. :D )

All down to thin metal panels the door skins are made from, applying sound deadening pads will dull the sound they produce but do make sure you reapply the door membrane after you fit pads so it remains watertight and keeps the rain from getting into the car.
Good how to do it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KSbPfTWUgM
