Didnt they have something similar on Pimp My Ride, you could select different car sounds from the database and it was wired upto 2 large subwoofers and speakers under the car.
 
It kinda works, but needs to sense engine load too really.

They need one that intercepts throttle position sensor and/or throttle body position to determine what samples to play... you can just tell it's not dynamic enough.

Not sure if I'd like it or not, but if it's cheap it could be a good novelty item... haha!
