Sound mods for 3.0i

I would have asked about performance tuning but after reading other posts I understand the only things worth doing are upgrading tyres and brakes, however anything that makes the car sound better I’m still looking into.

I’m going to get a custom back box and do the sound generator mod but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other mods I can do to improve the sound?

I had a simota carbon Fibre air filter on my 3.0i a couple of years ago and it sounded fantastic. Unfortunately I had a few issues with the revs bouncing, which went once I removed the filter. I think it's because the filter was oiled, rather than dry.

I did love the way it screamed though 8) looked nice too.

Oh really I like the sound of that but not keen on the issues, why didn’t you replace it with a non oiled filter? And is that bar running across a mod? If so how did that affect the drive?

I have done the back box delete, removed one bit of foam and added a rather large ram air filter. Love the sound it makes.

Sounds good I did think ram air only did them for the 2.5i?

Do you have a clip of how it sounds by any chance?

I couldn't find a dry filter to fit, or rather I never bothered to look

The bar is a 3 point strut brace. It definitely makes a difference as when I never had it fitted, the front end felt like a boat, now it feels tight

They do, however there is a filter that fits, was recommended by ram air. It's actually an old mates company, shame I haven't spoken to him in a long long time, no discount lol

Unfortunately I don't have a clip of it running. Excuse the dirty engine bay.
Hopefully they'll be a heat shield made soon, not that I've noticed any difference with heat soak.

I got a local company who sell ram air filters to talk to ram air for me, but I'm fairly certain that this is the one, looks the same and the price is pretty similar:

Hey Ben How's the sound change compared with removing foam from the sound gen in our cars? I'm guessing its obviously going to be way louder from the outside and perhaps with the windows down?

It's quite a lot louder, especially outside! The induction roar past 4k rpm was really nice from outside. So many people used to turn their heads, probably thinking there was an exotic car tearing up the road

I did record a video of the sound at the time. I will hunt through my old videos and try to find it.

Only reason I removed it, as said, was due to some dodgy fluctuating rev's and a couple of flat spots between 1,200 and 2,000 rpm. It did look and sound fantastic though

So just an FYI, I've been in contact with Ramair to sort a kit out!

Will be speaking to them this week and may well take my car up there to see what we can get set up.

Anyone else interested in what they've got for us? I'll try and at least get a forum discount going if I can.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with, and whether or not it's completely different to what they recommended me.

I'm pretty sure when I bought mine it was fitted to a 2.5i with a smaller maf. I bought a silicone reducer on ebay and a couple of jubilee clips to fit between the larger diameter maf and the small diameter air filter inlet/outlet.

I guess you could do the same with the ram air one?

You can see the silicone reducer in this image:
