Guys,
Sound mod was done before I got the zed. I want to put one piece back in as its too loud for te passenger.

Does it matter which one goes where and as I didn't take it out just wanted to seema picture of it in and coming out???

I have seen the how too, but pics gone and Bing's pics don't show the foam

Thanks

Try link above. Its for installation but shows the component parts. Probably the easiest way would be to put a foam plug in the hole you will find at the back of the passenger glove box. Cheers

The smaller, darker, denser one goes at the engine end, the lighter coloured bigger one goes at the bulkhead end. At least that's where they were on mine.

Think this was what the OP was referring to - I didn't take pics of the actual foam :headbang:

when i bought my car, the previous owner had already removed some foam, although i'm unsure how much he actually removed.

is there a guide with pictures for the M54, so i know what i'm looking for?

Thanks guys, looking at your pictures Bing, I take it the foam goes at each end of the pipe?

So........... I am going to pull the pipe off the bulk head end and shove one foam in?? :!:

I don't want to lose all the sound, it's just the last part of the rev range that hurts the passengers ears (It hurt me when I was the passengers!)

it does get a bit shrill higher up the rev range, having fitted an afe intake I decided to wack it back in, you're right, pull the pipe out. try not to pull the grommet out too, it's a pain to get in, especially if it's cold and you have 'office hands' like me...

I have removed the bulkhead, and shortened the engine side by about a third. Try it with the bulkhead foam in as you suggest ; if you don't like it then swap. It's an individual choice - having both out made my ears bleed, but others love it :idunno:

Ok, that was easy! I have put the lighter coloured foam in at the bulk head, about to go for a spin, I will let you know how it goes....... :driving:

I had the same issue, both myself and my wife found the noise at 5-6k a bit too loud with just the small engine end foam left in.

So - now we're running with the engine end foam in and half of the other end in - we cut the bigger diameter (bulkhead) foam into two equal bits. One bit in the bulkhead end and perfect - just the right amount of bark for us.

Seems to have done the trick. Fingers crossed. Thanks all for help..........

Hope to see a few of you in April, will know a couple of weeks before so can't commit yet......
