sound generator

I guess it would as it's the 6 pot.Not quite sure why people bother with these?

I put one on my 2.5 some years ago.

I used the logic that it was BMW parts I was using.

You do need to know that the rubber boot from the air box to the inlet manifold is a little larger on the 3.0 than the 2.5. I was able to take up the slack with the large jubilee clip. I would be wary that the 2.2 might be an even smaller diameter and may introduce an air leak - you do not want that!

Go careful.

The guy I bought my wheels from told me about the sound mod where you take one or two of the muffler pieces out of the tube that goes in to the bulkhead in the engine bay - can't remember the name of the mod, must be on here somewhere, would that not do the same thing and is free?

Motto - The sound generator is only fitted as standard on the 3.0

I've just fitted one to my 2.2 and removed one of the pieces of foam.

Paddy, if you are ever over in Leeds, Huddersfield let me know. You are more than welcome to hear mine.

Ah got ya, didn't realise that, seems a bit daft especially as the smaller engines would really benefit from the device.

Firstly....IM SORRY!!!

Secondly..... I know everyone is sick of hearing about the sound generator and the fact that 50% of all posts are on this subject :P but...
Does anyone know where I can find a replacement foam for the sound generator? I want to experiment cutting my old one down to size so its not just all or nothing, but want a new foam as a back up for when I mess up :?

Thanks, but will they laugh in my face when I ask for some foam for the sound generator or is that the official term?

Well the foam sections are not on the parts list so they may be part of the tube (No 9).

Ouch my ears hurt lol, got round to having a play with this today. Thanks for the tips on here it was just a 2min job. Removed both foam inserts thinking it won't make that much difference... few miles to warm up then full beans in third (to much wheelspin in 2nd today, cold and slippery out there) and ears still ringing :D inserted the further away bung back again and done 50miles. Think I might leave it with just one, sounds much louder and only slightly over the top at the top end if you have the roof up.

On the foam topic it looks like the same acoustic foam I have as bungs in the rear bass ports of my big floor standing speakers. Should be easy enough to get some online from a hifi shop.

So removing this makes naff all difference to the sound on the outside of the car with regards to what pedestrians and the like hear?

Its simply makes the cabin noise louder?

Got it in one, which is why I never bothered in the end.

Also cant see how it would effect any warranty, just the sound generator wouldnt be covered.
