Sound Generator

Hi All

I've been doing a bit of reading about the sound generator and it seems quite a decent OEM mod.

Has anyone on here fitted one to a 2.2 or 2.5 and does it make much of a difference.

I know the 3.0 has them fitted and you can take the foam out for a louder noise

Cheers

Dan

Dan,
Yes. I installed in on my 2003 2.5i and it makes an enormous difference. I also took one piece of the foam out and left the larger one in. I recommend you do the mod. You'll be very happy. Regards, Zinkster

Yes, two pieces. One at each end of the tube that connects the sound generator to the cabin. With both out it gets a bit loud. Zinkster

No kidding! I removed the piece closest to the firewall (long one I believe) and I find it a bit too loud. Will put it back and try the other piece instead.

Hey spoon i have fitted the sound generator to my 2.2 and sounds sweeeet!

Definately a mod worth doing! I have removed both pieces but was too loud. Best setup for me was to cut the bigger pice in half.

Good luck.

Seems like a bit of a pointless mod to me  mine sounds sweet as it is! 8)

don't know how much it could "improve" on the 2.2, but on the 3.0 it certainly is a worthwhile mod to play with.

Why would it not improve a 2.2? What are you trying to say?

Simply that I don't know if the improvement (or difference) in sound is similar on other engine displacements than the one I have...

Does the Z4C 3.0si have the sound generator. My car doesn't sound all that great and could definitely do with a sound generator mod.

Yes it does. If you want more engine sound in the cabin, you can remove some/all of the foam inside the hose which connects to the firewall.
I went the other way and removed the sound generator as it offers no performance benefit, clutters up the engine compartment, and has more plumbing to potentially leak. The sound which is generated is audible only inside the cabin, if you want additional sound levels go with something which offers at least some performance gain such as an exhaust or intake mod.
