Sound Generator

I removed the diaphragm/resonator and connector hose between the intake and firewall. This reduces the sound level in the cabin, unclutters the engine compartment a minor amount, and makes for one less future vacuum leak.

Wow, I took all the foam out of mine, made a recording of it, put it on my iPod and a CD-r and then synchronize all of them into a monstrous choir of Bavarian sound.

I may well follow you on this one. I don't need extra cabin noise.
 
That part which fits into the firewall, is it supposed to be pushed in hard? Mine just goes in without any pushing, is that okay?

Tried to take mine out tonight but I'm a bit useless doing things like this, I managed to get the foam out of the firewall side but couldn't get the pipe that has the circlip on as knowing me I'd probably break something. Managed to inadvertently removed a plastic cover with a "+" on. Are you supposed to just loosen the circlip or remove it completely?
 
pry circlip with a flat head and pull gently

the + cap is a battery positive point - makes jumping easier etc
 
Could someone tell me how to remove the foam from the sound generator (where ever that is), i'm very curious to hear the sound difference

Does it sound louder outside or is it just noticable from the inside

heres a generic picture i found - ive circled the pipe

simply pull firmly on the pipe to free it. the pipe is flexi so you shouldnt break it. in the end youll feel or see a piece of foam. pull it out and push pipe back into plcae.

at the other end of the pipe is another piece of foam.

noise is only noticable on the inside.

i find that i prefer it with the foam in place. its fun with the roof down but with my roof up i get a bad resonance.
