If its the same as the 3.0i then the biggest piece is at the bulkhead end.

The 3.0si sound generator is a completely different design to the earlier models. It seems to have additional resonating chambers and is fixed to the compartment using different clips.

Someone mentioned that they took out a piece of foam at the engine end of the tube and it made no difference on the 3.0si. Just wondering if anyone else has done this on a 3.0si and which is the best piece to remove?

Fair enough, I wasnt sure if they were the same or not. So you have a second generation sound generator, thats a gob full :D
 
Only just got around to doing this mod.
Only took 2 minutes as I only removed the foam on the bulk head end.
It sounds great under hard acceleration over about 4500 revs and exactly the same as it was at all other times.
The best thing about this mod is that my wife who hates loud engine noise will never know I've done it cos she never drives it at those revs and when she is with me I won't either.
It's hard to believe that the engine noise outside the car is no different.
