Sound Generator - Yes or No?

Before, I sign off for the evening. I had been reading about this particular component that some Z4's have and do not have.... The infamous "Sound Generator". I have read the other threads on this forum, all about how this device works, the removoal of the foam, etc. etc.

However, I was just curious, and since, my car does not have one, "Is really worth the $130.00 to install this SG?"

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated....Night all.....

Since you already have the Dinan CAI, I'd say don't bother with the sound generator. On my '04 3.0i with SE CAI & Dinan front air duct, I ended up just taking out the sound generator altogether. It was too loud, sounded too fake, and the car simply didn't need it with an aftermarket CAI.

It just depends on how much noise you want in the cabin. I found out I get better gas milage with the foam in place.

After much thought, and reading all of your opinions, I might consider this retrofit and leave the foam pieces intact...

1stKnight, I went the less is better route and removed mine. I removed the cannister and connecting tube and then pluged the holes. Less plumbing in the engine compartment and the cabin sound level dropped a bit. I also removed the charcoal filter in the air intake box at the same time. I can hear the radio/music better at lower rpm's and at the higher revs the engine sound is similar to the pre-delete sound. Also,I like your avatar!

I have not yet ordered the parts, but your insight to this SG is helpful. I also would prefer not to have an excess amount of sound in the cabin as well...

Thanks re the avatar!

I cant see how a piece of foam in the sound generator would make any difference to fuel consumption.

^^^ I think it would make a difference, but only because you keeping flooring it to experience the noise rather than any mechanical reason.

I'm sorry I did not explain myself very well. My intent was to say, my foot gets real heavy just to hear the motor. Just for the record ,I have not had any more driving awards ( speeding tickets ) given since I put the foam back in either. :headbang:

Thanks Wondermike for explaining my intent. It was clear as a sunny day in my mind. I will try to do better in the future.

Easy, see I get much worse fuel econony when I have the roof down, not because of the increased drag, but because I keep booting it everywhere to hear the exhaust ...vroooooooooooooooom :)
