Will a 3.0 version fit a 2.5?

See Link for how to fit to a 2.5 http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19134&p=402949&hilit=SOUND+GENERATOR#p402949

The one linked won't though as it's for the m54 engine and you have a n52.

confused.com

the one on ebay - will that fit a 2007 2.5si ?

thanks

That one will not fit yours, I've done the same mod see these part numbers http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BU52&mospid=49303&btnr=13_1173&hg=13&fg=20

Thanks - i was going to bid on the assumption that a 2007 3.0 and a 2007 2.5 si would be the same type of engine - but it would need to be a 3.0 si to be compatible i suspect

thanks again

You need to be looking for one shaped like part 6 in the realoem link above - it is a very distinctive shape. The chap selling it on eBay knows it is not the right one I think - he says it is from 'approx' 2007 and that you need to check your engine as no refunds will be given... Either that or he has no clue as the part numbers he quotes don't match realoem either

Interesting - there is a sound gen part on ebay that does look a bit like that like part #6 but there are no numbers

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E85-E86-Z4-ROADSTER-COUPE-RUBBER-BOOT-SOUND-GENERATOR-2-5i-3-0si-GENUINE-/260980825782?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cc3ab5eb6

That bit you link to on ebay is part number 2 - the bit that attaches to the throttle body, a very small part of the sound generator.

This is the only pic I have of the sound gen that is any good - sat on top of the engine cowling :

Pic18.jpg

Fits into the gap on the right of the engine and attaches to the throttle body, the air box and the round bracket under the firewall brace that looks like it has a white dot in the middle. Here's a pic of it partly dismantled but in place (ignore the coloured circles an arrow, took this for something else) :

You need the bit off ebay, and part number 6 which is two parts including the bracket, and the long connecting tube in the realoem pic

Thanks!! - I will buy the part numbers for the the whole thing from BMW - I suspect i could have ended up with yet another EBAY bargain that lives in the garage :-)

I suspect that getting an eBay bargain may be what the seller did originally :D

chris, you only need these part numbers:

13717556528
07129952119
13747557368
13627531817
07129952119
13717546118
13717514865

You don't need any of the big jubilee clips as you can reuse the current ones, and the small rubber boot is already on the throttle body.

And just follow the link ColinP posted and its a breeze :)

Where is that from, your local dealer ?

No idea if that is right or not as mine came with all the bits

However... if you phone Sopers Lincoln and ask for Jamie in the parts department, tell him what you want and tell him you are a member of this forum then you should get a 10% discount or so, and delivery is usually included. Their number is 01522 690000.
