Sound generator on 2.0 litre?

Hi Guys,

Can you mod the 2.0 Z4 sound generator like you can the 3.0 litre? I.E remove the foam covering?

If not is there another way to get the same effect?

Thanks,

Jakub

I'm not sure a 'sound' mod like that is worth it on a 2.0i. I've just fitted a quad exhaust to mine and it sounds like a beast, but she moves like a bus. I make a ton of noise pulling away at the lights yet the old lady next to me in her Clio or whatever is keeping pace with me in the next lane... Makes me feel a bit of a fraud. To disguise my fraudulent ways I assume the position of the responsible driver - 'I could race you, but I'm not gonna'.

I just retrofitted one today it took about 20mins,
Although I do have a cnc lathe that I used to make the adapter from the airbox to fit my hose to.
Was going to make 10 more for anyone that wants to retrofit themselves.
FOC of course.

onto the 2.0? probably are plenty of members who would be interested
also how does it sound?

So your drilling the airbox and pulling warm air from the cabin into the filter?, thats not how it works, there is an isolating diaphragm in the generator to transmit the sound but not for air to pass. Not sure id do it that way!!

No sorry,
On a 2.5 but it does sound amazing.
I didn't used and parts from bmw.
I bought some 40mm flexi hose from eBay £7.99 and a hole cutter,
Used the hole cutter in the airbox and the rubber plug and the firewall.

I thought you had fitted the OEM sound gen from the 3.0 to a 2.0...

If you've simply drilled a hole into the airbox, then depending on whether that is pre or post filter, then you'll either be losing some of the ram effect, or allowing unfiltered air from the cabin into the engine...

I see your point, I will block it off tomorrow. I have ordered a new one from eBay. Then retry :?
Maybe should have asked in the first place blast my haste :headbang:
