Sound generator hose/firewall connection

So anyone who's done the soundgen mod; either removing the foam or even installing a sound generator will know that the connection for the hose at the firewall is a bit loose. But how loose should it be?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm going to stick one piece of foam back so that it filters out some of the vibrations and burping noises I'm hearing. It's a bit much, plus the volume on accelleration is becoming a bit tedious if I'm honest!

I know we had the big poll not long ago and it was an overwhelming opinion to leave it well alone and maybe that's subconciously persuaded me to put at least one bit back. :D

So jiggying about with Betty's pipework this afternoon (eaaaasy) and I couldn't help thinking that the firewall connection is a bit, well, non-positive and may even contribute to some of the vibration noises I've been hearing recently.

Any views?

Hi, its definitely the missing foam that's clearing your ear-wax & not the fit of the pipe as it goes through the firewall
They stuffed it with foam for a good reason, its TO LOUD!!! :poke:

Hehe, well I'm inclined to agree.
It was a bit of a larf having both bits out but now it's time to tone it down a bit. Lau hates it anyway and when she's in the car she's the boss, so....
but I think I've sussed it; the hole diameter is 55mm and on of the ridges is 61mm and looks like it should definitely hook over the metal ridge of the firewall, which would explain the vibration.
Can't believe I'm doing this at 4pm on a friday afternoon while its 5 degrees outside lol.
I think I'm becoming a bit obsessed.....ooer!

well, the solution was stupidly easy - the large rubber grommet is detachable from the end of the hose so it's easy to squidge back around the firewall hole. then just simply plug both ends of the hose back into their respective receptacles.
lol, no-one will read or understand any of this. hahahaa

I removed mine completely for some refined noise levels, when refitting i sprayed a load of silicone around the area & it fell back in as though entering a wizards sleeve :D (i understand)

I hear Rob keeps a handy handbag-sized can of silicone spray about his person at all times should any opportunity arise.....

It's a nightmare getting the grommet connected 100% to stop the rattle at the firewall end. I had to spend a good five minutes pushing all around it to get it to seat properly

I think i've been through what you've been through today!

My firewall grommet and hose are a tight and secure fit. Not loose at all.
Takes a bit of effort but worth fine tuning it for a rewarding engine sound feedback

I took both pieces of foam out and ate them so as to be sure they'd never be able to go back in.
If I drive around normally I don't really hear it...it's when I put my foot down, then it kicks in :driving:

Eating them? Pretty hardcore. :?

My problem is the fitting at the engine end. I can't get the pipe to fit over the rigid plastic part, there seems to be a ridge which will not allow me to pull it all the way. Which in turns means that tightening the banjo clip does not work as it is outside the two "mating" pipes.

Is it brute force or silicone that is needed?
