Sound generator for N52

Anybody got a sound generator for my N52 which doesn’t have one? Eerily, it’s the quietest Z4 I’ve ever driven.

I bought my E86 with it missing the pipe/grommet from the sound generator to the bulkhead. I waited a while for a second hand one, but nothing came up, so I bit the bullet and got it from the dealer. You might get luckier than I was, but there wasn't much out there second hand when I was looking.

Good luck!

TBH I wouldn’t be interested at that price. And if I’d known that, I would have taken the one off my last car before I sold it :(

You could always import it? The pipe and grommet were about £60 from memory...

Or just go to BMW, but this looks like it needs the extra sound generator, so is more expensive (assuming the ecs image is accurate)

These are what it looks like ECS provide

And these you'd need regardless

I was indeed pulling your leg [ref]Zedebee[/ref],

I have all the parts apart from the sealing gasket which is part number 13717514865 and you will need a torx screw which is part number 13627531817 . I also only have one foam bung but usually people take out one if not both .

Thanks for the info. I’m not sure I trust the ECS option. While the picture includes the sound generator, the part number is just for the rubber boot. Clearly, it is an option just to buy new parts from BMW.

 If you are minded to sell, let me know how much you want for it posted. Feel free to PM me.

I think Jingle has a spare🤔

I installed my sound generator (as my car changed from a 2.0 to the 3.0Si so never had it originally) but it didn’t make any difference for me even with both foams removed as my straight piped decatted exhaust is so loud

I got lucky and found 1 for sale on Facebook marketplace for £40 (well, GenZed found it and sent me the link lol)

Sorry to hijack and resurrect an old thread, especially for my first post (!) but I don't suppose anyone's got another of these knocking about? Or even better a handy way to try and fix a leak in one, please?

I have a small leak from the main plastic intake before the sound generator itself and before I drop £100 on a new one I'd rather confirm it as definitely causing the other issues I'm having (multiple misfires), either by a tempy fix or by replacing with a known good spare! The leak is, seemingly, in the most awkward place imaginable, coming from round the back of the hose as crudely drawn on 1536Z4's picture below.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received, I've already got a bunch of help from just reading the forum so cheers!

I can sell you the non-generator intake assembly that came off mine, and the blanking grommet for the firewall. It might solve your problem, but you’ll lose some noise.

Hi mate, sorry for the silence. I may well take you up on that, can you send a pic thru of what you have? Not particularly worried about noise at this point, would prefer a functional motor. Where abouts in the uk are you based? (Presuming you’re UK based!) (and so long as the going rate isn’t still £500 😅)

Unless of course anyone has any ideas on how to fix an intake boot leak from the most annoying point ever, without changing the carefully calibrated level of air incoming (I presume the shape of the boot is precise… Otherwise you could put any old thing after the MAF which surely defeats the point?)?

I’ll post a pic shortly. I’m pretty close to you near Farnham. The intake dynamics are pretty much the same because resonator in the generator version is effectively a dead end, i.e. it only pipes sound into the cabin, not airflow.

Here you are. £35 collected.

Nice one, thanks I’ll take it. Will DM you thru the week, if I have the permissions yet, to sort out a time. Likely be Friday or this weekend if that suits?
