Sound gen foam !!!!

Small grey foam removed Friday! Putting it back in today!

I don't know if i like the sound... I gave it a boot home from work and my ear were muffled, not the tone I was expecting. Ok in short bursts.

Is it worth playing around with other foam in the sound gen? Or will I be disappointed?
 
it's not to everyone's taste.. but if you like the sound of induction noise, then it's worth playing with the foam.
I played around with different combinations and in the end, I removed just the cabin end foam from mine, and have never looked back.

If you don't want noise in the cabin, don't remove any.
If you want noise, then it's just a case of trying the various combinations until you get the level of noise you want.
The actual sound will never change however - just volume
 
All I would say is make sure you are driving hard in the 5 - 6.5 k range to test the sound b4 putting it back in

Yeah I kinda get that! Might cut half and try that.

Just you clarify, do you think the tone will be the same however much I play around with it?
 
We'll worth experimenting to find a sound that is to your taste :thumbsup:

I found that taking the full bit of foam out by the bulkhead, but leaving the shorter bit in did the trick and sounded great

I removed both pieces this weekend. Holy s**t it's loud now. Can't believe how much difference 2 small pieces of foam can do. It's just too loud for me so I'm gonna put back the small piece and see how that works out 8)
 
i think a pipe extends from the intake manifold through the bulkhead, you get to it from the engine bay, ive left mine in as i like the refined,original sound :thumbsup:
 
Easiest way is remove the panel that fits just under the glove box (2 screws) then just pull the foam out. 5 mins....and another 5 to put it back in when you realise that it's too loud and not quite the sound you were after!
 
I took foam out if both ends way too loud. Put just one end back in too quiet. So i only kept one end in but i made a 1cm hole i in the middle of the foam. Popped that back in and now sounds just right. Not deafening but louder than it was.

I removed the bulkhead foam and it wasn't too loud but it did sound very unnatural at high revs - not a classic induction noise at all; more like a horn! From 3k-5k it sounded great. 8)

I've settled on just a small piece of foam in the bulkhead (the bit on the left):

After doing this I have also realised that with the bulkhead foam removed it was quite a bit noisier than stock at low RPM, even though it didn't seem so at the time. It is much easier to hear wind noise around the wing mirrors on the motorway now. :roll:
 
It's possible to run an S2000 with the airbox lid removed as it has a cone filter as stock. It comes off in seconds by simply releasing six clips. The sound is incredible, especially under heavy load in VTEC. However, there's an annoying continual whistle of constant pitch that otherwise is muted by the silencer effect of the airbox when the lid is on. As such, I now keep the airbox closed for driving in traffic and chuck it in the boot when hooning.
I imagine that this sound is very similar to the effect of removing the sound generator foam on the Zed. If so, I can sympathise with those who find it wearing day to day and don't associate the sound with that expected of induction.
Of course, my ///M has an aFe intake which sounds awesome and can be heard from miles away :evil:
