Sound deadening pre-facelift e85

I've installed amazon basic sound deadening stickers in the doors and it made a huge difference to the sound of power windows and the doors closing. However the car still sounds like a tin can. How challenging is it to apply deadening within the front and rear quarter panels? Has anyone done it? Am I asking for trouble?
thanks!

Be careful the sound deadening from Amazon doesn't decide to remove itself in very hot weather and foul the window mechanism. Trust me, I know! 😀 As for the rear quarters there's not alot of metal inside the car to stick to once y9uve removed all the carpets and they're pretty heavily padded anyway. These cars do have their own sound.

My first concern would be breaking plastic clips in the process of trying to get everything peeled back. I'd imagine you'd trade one concern for another - probably more expensive annoyance.

My car doesn't get left outside in the sun very often so little chance of the sound deadening panels peeling back and falling off, hopefully! As for the rest of it, the tinny sound comes from the front and rear outer body panels. Those are secured with some bolts and interior can be accessed via wheel arches by removing some of the plastic, I presume. Just not sure if there is an easy way - dont' like reinventing wheels

A Z4 that isn't in the sun very often seems odd because its the best way to use a convertible. Go for it with the sound deadening, be interesting to know the difference it makes. There really shouldn't be a noticeable 'tinny' sound from the front wings, and even the rear is pretty well cushioned from factory. Just enjoy the car as it's meant to be. Or borrow a Renault Megan convertible for a week then get back in yours and you'll realise BMW didn't do too bad! 😀

I have a facelift but still did the doors for improvement.
The noise now mainly comes from behind - through the softtop fabric side parts and from the large side space where the roof mechanism folds. It resonates and the rear wheel is just behind. Porsche has done that neatly by placing a cover over it that rises during roof action. Another side effect is you do not need the flimsy overpriced side covers that you have to apply or remove manually.

You misunderstood. I dont' leave my car out in the sun, I drive it. Facelifted models have much better sound deadening, I'm just bringing it to how its meant to be. Cheers

You don't by any chance have any pictures of how/where you installed the sound deadening do you? And which one you used?
The doors closing is ridiculously noisy, especially when a passenger not used to the car closes them!
Would definitely like to do this myself.
Thanks!

I used some 6mm rubbery foam with a sticky side. Cheap from Ebay.
I avoided the heavy film backed bitumen type products that are for stopping vibration rather than absorbing sound. (and very expensive)

Basically stuck it to the majority of the outer door skin that I could reach with the door card off.
I also stuck it to the underside of the bonnet, within the 'triangles' between the braces. It gets pretty hot under there and they've not loosened yet.
I also stuck it all over the rear. I removed all the carpets and stuck it everywhere, including all the plastics covering the rear lights and very back of the boot. Also where I could reach into the rear arch voids (from inside), boot loor, rear bulkhead and also pushed a load of random bubble wrap packaging down the voids that would be behind the seats (but accessed from the boot)

(Coupe E86)

Is the car now an ultra quiet long distance tourer? no, but it helped, for sure.
