"Sorry we don't do a coil-over kit for your car!"

Hi

So getting all bits sorted ready for the 8th December (Lots of work at Indy) and this comes back from DemonTweeks!!!!!! Apparantly SPAX RSX does not fit on the Z4 3.0SE??? I thought they were all the same (ish).

Dear r3ap4r,

Hello,

Thanks for the email.

Unfortunately we do not have them for the SE models, the RSX is a complete coilover kit (shock and spring as a complete unit) and not just the shock/damper. The b8 is designed for use with lowering springs. However i cannot see anything suitable for the SE model.

All if the 3.0i were SE spec as thats all that existied at the time.

I think machine monkey may have these coilovers fitted with no issues at all, The 3.0i SE does come with Msport suspension as standard too.

I think they are just trying to cover themselves but im 95% sure they fit fine.

Maybe check with Spax and ask them the question directly.

Hope this helps

Ash

Ah good old deamon thieves. if you do go with them check out their sister company as often the same product is cheaper.

Monkey has Spax but his on Hols and I need to order sharpish ready for my build! cant seem to get D2's anywhere either

D2s on e-bay mate direct from them not a middle man cowboy adding on 10%

Mate I have never had such trouble in my life! the companies that I am emailing are all asking for my reg to confirm. I give it to them, and they are all coming back saying that D2/Spax don't fit my model :headbang: At this rate I'm gonna say "balls" and just replace struts with standard's with Eibachs! The SE is not uniquwe or special to my knowledge and maybe they are just covering the "it doesn't fit" issue but I cant believe its been so hard to order a set of coilovers for an E85!

When you're replacing both the shock and spring, does it really matter if the car was an se or sport? The chassis mounting is the same and for all intents and purposes, the weight of the car would be not too dissimilar (for spring rate and valving)

If the kit fits another non-m, I can't think why it wouldn't fit yours.

Alternatively, wait it out, go for a KW kit and don't look back.

They will fit your car fine.

The reason behind the se argument is that the sport has different springs, but computers don't say this. Just buy them and don't give them your reg.

Or, if you must, steal a reg off a sport on here.

Personally I'd never have spax again, I had them on a EG Civic VTi and they seized along with the damping adjustment just turning and not actually adjusting.
I've also had D2, they were good quality, but were a bit hit or miss with damping, but it was only an old civic so they were great for the lowered looks. I'm not sure I'd fit them to my Z4 though but opt for a more developed brand like Eibach or KW.

Which KW's would you recommend? Are they not alot more pennies?

The v1's are the cheapest and only feature height adjustability.

V2's are height and dampening (what I went for)

V3's are height, dampening, and rebound.

Clubsports are mainly if you're after building a track monster.

Ultimately though, the KW's on price vs features may not be all that appealing to some, but it can be argued they make up for it in build quality and customer support. (Not to mention the innox line are better suited against corrosion than other coilovers)

Another option would be BC coilovers (seemingly popular from members on Stanceworks who haven't ponied up for air or broadway static coilovers), offer plenty of adjustability and are decently priced. (Think ba3bas is running them on his coupe).

BTW why do you guys at the other side of the pond use SE, as far as i know it's non existing at the Mainland nor US, it's just a title for a option package the import company came up with.

that logbook is something lilke a pinkslip ? still in holland we have the I and IS in the prefacelift. but the "IS" is only an option package and no difference in car. that's why i thing that SE (package) you guys are talking about is only an option package, and not any different than the other car's of the same age.

that's the point people are making the kit for a sport will be the same as that for an SE as the two are levels of kit. (i may be wrong but i thought in the BMW range here SE were more comfort orientated so non sport seats susupension wheels etc). the problem arises due to most car shops etc using an automated system. the monkey behind the counter needs no knowledge... just pop in the number plate and the computer says this part. it looks like the SE isnt on the list so they are covering their arses by saying the kit isnt for your car. even tho the SE and sport are the same underlying car. this division become muddied by the fact that SE spec cars with the 3.0i engine have sport suspension as standard the other engined SE's dont.

JE knows hi stuff on this so if he says it fits then i would listen to him.

^ yes only other problem is, many people on this forum also don''t know, and believe suchs a monkey behind the counter.

indeed :) hence the invaluable info the forum provides in these cases  well done us :D

doing stuff on my kit car is a nightmare sometimes. i know what car the various bits are from but i have no number plates. so f i was doing an oil change and went into a motor factors i would ask for a filter and oil from a 1998 ford mondeo 2.0l manual petrol. i could even give them an engine code and they look at me blankly... i have a list of plates now that i have pulled off autotrader and the web from the cars i know the bits were on. if i was feeling a bit pissed i would give them the westyfield plate and watch them flounder around trying to figure it out.
