Thanks for your comments BeeEmm
You're welcome and I hope that you didn't feel badgered by me and others who thought it was wrong to put an 'M' badge on the rear of a non 'M' car. :)

Not at all - very entertaining. I'm looking forward to finding out what you all think about the biturbo badge to go on the centre of the boot - I expect you'll approve of the enhanced symetry as opposed to the ///M badge.

I think you would struggle to find one, as far as I'm aware BMW never made them and it's a bit niche even for Chinese knock offs. I believe BMW did some M135i badges in black - you could use the 35 from one of those but the "i" wouldn't look right and I'm not sure if you could get the "s" from another model? Would probably only be available in the larger boot badge size.

Could the originals be painted?
Yes. A decent body shop can do it. Scuff, prime, paint, etc. It would be easier, perhaps cheaper to buy it already painted.

If anyone knows where to get one, please let me now.

That's one for the Alpina forum. If you post it, stand well back. :D

If only Alpina's are allowed "biturbo" on them, you might need to go and have a word with Mercedes Benz...

This is a brown car -

VO may not be bright orange but it is more orange than brown IMHO

Or is that bronze? Either way, it would look 99% better in Miami Blue and with a few badges removed!

Which ever it is more brown than your car :D

It was Mavster, he had Alpina wheels on it and a few other visual mods. Looked pretty good IMO but also got a bit of stick when first posted on here!

Yes it was and what a stunning car that was! As I said before Will its your car and you decide what you want to do with it, it would be a bit boring if we were all the same

Answer - 'M' performance cars (with an 'M' badge on the rear) traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. Again, no sarcasm meant.

No sarcasm here either but where does this sit in those theories. ///M badge on mine and not added by me and has many of the things mentioned above

I believe a M car is a proper M i.e. what I've listed M2 M3 etc. whereas the M40i the M135i M240i etc. are M performance models and not the full fat M cars. AFAIK Whether it's an M car or an M Performance has nothing to do with having a M badge on the back which of course you have on your new car.

As a Honda owner, it just reminds me of the current generation of Honda "sport" models which are actually the bottom model with the addition of bigger wheels, wing and maybe a body kit. Its an insult to the actual performance model (Type R, Type S and less so an "Si" model). As I said earlier, worse so if those people slap a DOHC VTEC or an actual "type R" sticker on it. Any auto enthusiast rolls their eyes and calls them "posers" here in the good 'ol USA.

But on my 35i with the "M" package, it is odd that the "M" is everywhere on the car except the rear lol. But, Lexus does the same thing, its "F" cars are badged "f" on the rear and the "F-sport" cars have "F" all over them except the rear.

And therefore, as BMW saw fit to call it orange, we are allowed to call it orange, even though technically it's not orange?
Hey, if they can do that with a whole car colour, why are we arguing over a badge?

I'm off to get a sticker that says 'My other car isn't orange either'.

How about one that says my other car is orangey / brown with an M badge or 8

Toyota did something in the Uk years ago, they launched a corolla sport with bodykit, six speed box and poultry 1300cc engine, the normal car had a 1600cc engine and 5 speed box - was very strange at the time but they said it was for kids to get cheaper insurance, as if any kids would drive a corolla

VO you can call it any colour you like, it’s still remains one of the best colours on a Z4 and it’s a shame BMW have reduced there colour palette and they’ve stopped doing those interesting colours like PY and SB.

As for parts out of the MSport parts bin, what else is there apart from steering wheel, seats, seat belt, wheels, front and rear bumper and lowered suspension. There’s some argument that the 35iS should be classed as an ///M engine because it was used in the original 1 series M Coupe but it was not designed specifically for an ///M, rather they had something good enough to fit in the 1M Coupe without making something bespoke, given the ///M engines in production at the time were either V8 or V10

Agree on the colours - BMW should realise we don't all want to drive the same cars.

The above list is correct on the Msport, however, with the Msport trim, not everyone can afford a proper ///M car or insure one but still want the looks, see no issue in marketing a car with these bits as an Msport.

My son purchased a 420D Msport, he loved the way the car looked, his insurance was over £3k despite the car being locked away in one of the most secure locations in the UK (not kidding), there is no way that he could afford to run an ///M car.

Well if it was good enough to be used in the 1M and be classed as an ///M why could it not the same for the Z4, gave as much power as the e85 Z4M
