Hi all

Im in the market for a Z4 coupe, and interested in finding out things like service cost and things to look out for.

I live in North London, so firstly any BMW specialists near or in London that could be recommended would be great, also average cost of Service I should be expecting?

And any key things for me to look out for when viewing and test driving?
Thanks

Bought my Coupe in May with the understanding that the rear springs will need doing later down the line.

Noticed a rattle when going over bumps about a week later, got the car on the ramp and the springs on the rear had snapped, just reached into the cup that houses them and picked out the broken piece!

I took the opportunity to lower mine on H&R springs, very happy and NO other issues since.

Enjoy your soon to be purchase, great cars!

Great choice of car & once you do find a good indy even if you have problem's ( you would be unlucky) they don't cost a fortune to sort out :)
some rough costings on expected stuff .(ideally look for invoices to show these have been done )
broken springs / £130 fitted
front control arms/bushes / £180 fitted
new horns / £50 fitted ( yep a strange one but seems to affect quite a few Z's including mine x2)

more routine
discs & pads all round / £300
oil service/ £100 - £140
major service/£300 - £400 (plugs,filters,fluids)
4 x tyres for 18's / £500 standard rubber - £800 RF's

best of luck & feel free to post up links on any proposed vehicles

Mr Wilks, what are the symptoms of the front control arms/bushes needing to be replaced? Woolley steering or is it one of those things that just crops up in the MOT?

Welcome tot he club, best choice of zed to buy. I'm in west London and have heard good things about Gilberts in Ealing.

Inspection 1 pricing should be around £250
Inspection 2 should be around £330

(These are 3.0si prices). The other prices are above from Mr Wilks.

I would try and get a car thats had the springs done (as I did) also look out for condensation in the fog lights although the dealer / seller may not be willing to do anything on this but you may be able to knock some money off. If AUC force them to change them as I did.

Over speed bumps or uneven road surface i could feel looseness & a light rattle/knock from front end .
Easiest way to tell though is grab hold of front wheel (do both) with hands at 3 & 9 . give a good shake & any play will show , if in doubt do same with car jacked up & if they are needing replacement it will definitely show looseness .

Good price here at mo http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_Z4+Coupe_3.0_2006/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/suspension-bushes/?618110295&1&c4b3baf144a3f48f2c862ef28714a37e29ff800a&000437
mine were £115 from BMW & my indy charged me £35 to fit them

Hi, thanks for all the info and will share pics once the purchase is made.

Have my short list of cars which i'll be seeing this week.

Great to see a friendly Z4 community - no doubt i'll be picking brains for modifications.
(the intention was not to mod a car again, but once you've done it before you can't not do it again and with me signed up here....well, it just has to be done)

So, i've a deposit on a Black Coupe Sport with 35k miles, pretty much fully loaded, except the ipod input

Does anyone know if this can be retro fitted

(ahh the important things eh)

also, the car states the bluetooth bit but noticed a parrot installed

Should I be concerned now, as I was after factory bluetooth

Thought all the coupes had the AUX in ? mines under dash near the heater control , not visible unless you feel for it .
Guess on the parrot thing it hasn,t got factory bluetooth ?
if the garage will give you the VIN enter it here http://bmwvin.com/ for full spec of car
Looking forward to the pics :)

not factory installed no

Hoping the Bluetooth parrot has ipod controls, and at least uses the buttons on the wheel

Everything else is standard on coupe's like electric seats, rain sensor, automatic air condition, etc, etc

Still not a bad spec, looks like its similar to mine..

Good to know, seems fully loaded and has the projector lights so assume Xenons installed - although the list doesn't state

It's only a deposit so as long as I see it, I won't lose it.
Going on Saturday midday in Brighton

I can get Xenons installed

truth is in the driving - it's got 35k miles, nice interior and a decent spec so we'll see
It's a juggling act with what I want Vs what's available

No parking sensors either but i'm not overly fussed at that, although would have been a bonus

Ah yes I remember seeing this previously.

it has the extended leather a very rare and nice touch (and quite an expensive option). Its a shame it has the aluminium dash trim finish as I dont think it matches the cream leather but as long as you like it thats all that matters.

Looks good value for the spec, year and mileage. Carbon black like mine too. You'll notice when you go see it that it looks blue but black at night..

Check the service history carefully and if you do buy it you will want to upgrade your satnav firmware to 32.2 to get the postcode lookup..

Will report back if I buy it :)

Thanks for the assist - how does the upgrade take place for sat nav
