Sadly the time is coming to sell the z very soon,

I know from reading here there seems to be a dip in the pricing of them so wonder which is the best option for selling atm for me
Private sale or part ex

The car is a 2005 (June 05) Z4 3.0i SE
88600 miles, 10 months mot, part history with a full service 2k ago, new disks and pads to front 2 months ago

Car externally is in average-good condition with one small dent above the filler cap and front ns front wheel has kerbing marks (108'sin fairly good condition with no laquer bubbling - refurbed in past year)

Car internally is same, but stowage lid is broken so when folded down it hangs loose
only have one key, and one reverse sensor is dead (never bothered having it replaced as if I can't see whats 2 foot behind I really shoudn't be driving) so should I have the bits sorted for a private sale / part ex or leave them?f
Whats the best pricing point to sell? if I have the bits sorted 2) if I leave them

Autorader gives £4650 private, £3360 part ex - not sure how these figures compare in the real world?

Weres best to sell thesedays? (private)

Any info appreciated.... TIA

Sorry I cannot help you with pricing (I only tend to follow E86 prices) but you could probably do much worse than to put it in the classifieds on here first!

Good luck anyway.

Not well up on zed pricing but what I will say is forget the autotrader pricing tool for a start. I have seen that thing vary wildly on even 3 grand cars from one day to the next, £500 in a day is not unusual.

You will always get more privately as a rule but you do have to factor in how quick you want rid and advertising cost etc.

Had a look on trader out of curiosity and here are a few links to similar cars on there.

Looking I think the £4,650 price its given you is too low. I would probably price it somewhere in the £5,000-5,500 range as you can bet your bottom dollar the other cars probably aren't pristine either, especially the one at dealers. I think when you get to this price point the whole dealer/private price differential heads out the window and in many ways I would rather buy private and way up the owner as much as the car. (In fact that's what I did!)

Obviously I haven't seen the car, don't know its full list of options and can't appraise its condition but as a rough guide an 05 with that sort of mileage is probably a £5k plus car when compare with others on there. If its got M Sport seats for example that will really help it shift. The partial history wont help, even at this age and price point but have you tried to contact BMW to see if they have any extra records. The other aspects you mention are minor low cost issues. If you want it gone tomorrow p/x is your best bet as sales seem to have been slow recently and there is the time of year to consider. If you went to WBAC and co I would be expecting to see under £3K once they have spanked you on condition and fees.

Hope this helps.

I sold my 2005 recently and it sounds similar to yours, it had lower mileage around 75,000 but had 9 previous owners after a while of advertising on pistonheads I had one firm offer £4500 which fell through in the end and I eventually sold for £4200. I bought it 18 months before with it needing a service for £4900.
I think especially as we move towards winter in needs to be below £5k.....maybe quite a bit below. Saying that if you're not in a rush ask for more and see what happens. You can always lower the price later.

Rob do you not think it overwhelming would have been the 10 owners that was hurting your sale? That's an awful lot even by zed standards and I know I personally would have looked elsewhere.

£4950 start & see where it goes , if the phone rings off the hook then hang out for close to ask price , if little interest lop £150 a week off  the list of faults although minimal adds to the "negatives" & from the off that makes buyers wary
I suspect if you want it gone in the next 3-6 weeks it will need to be between £4500 / £5000 :? you can of course always throw it up at £5500 for a week & try your luck

yes I have but I wanted to offer my experiences to the OP without publicly suggesting a value

very happy with mine too

best of luck, hopefully the sun hangs around for a bit longer until you do sell, once the cold kicks in you can expect to lose a bit off the asking price because most people wont be buying convertibles in the autumn/winter.

If the boot trim is broken, this may be of interest if your passing by the midlands:

There my bits, could possibly sort courier but would probably be more than the bits themselves due to size etc.

Good luck!

Thanks but the boot trim is ok!

Ahhh, do you mean the glovebox? There is a damper on the side that sometimes come undone, you may be able to clip it back in.

No its the cubby hole cover between the seats that's damaged but not as bad as I first thought tbh! (Only one side is damaged -thought the other side had gone too, but it was just a clip that had come out)

No doubt it effected the price. Just trying to give the op a real life example. Everyone can have an opinion on value but sometimes its good to know what cars are actually sell for. You cant have too much information.

I would say £5300 as the seller always wants to get the price down.

I'm always getting that, turn up to buy a car & the seller haggles the price right down-it's so frustrating

That's why I ask for extra 5% over what I really want when I sell a car. Most buyers want to feel like that they have gotten a great deal which no one else could of gotten.

Agreed, it's nowhere near as bad if the buyer haggles the price downwards but when the seller wants to get the price down its just downright confusing :P
