Sonic boom!

I no longer smoke, but Rioja I like.......

It was Bing's fault posting that picture, it just got my Brain going.....our cars are limited to a 155 mph and that can be quite scary, speed of sound is a few steps forward of that. But sound is slow compared to light, I mean really slow, dawdling in fact, light travels at almost 300 million metres/second.

You see thinking about how fast light travels, makes me feel so small and insignificant that any problems I might have are thus relatively trivial, It takes light from our sun 4.2 years to get to our nearest neighbouring star, Proxima Centauri. The centre of our galaxy is some 26,000 light years away and is 100,000 light years in diameter. Our nearest neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda, is only 2,500,000 light years away.

Homo sapien, us in other words, have been around for a paultry 200,000 years, the image of the first of man may have left our galaxy but is still crossing the void to another and won't arrive for two million or so years.......

+1  - why is why I posted this... Though it wasn't my most popular thread

I live in a town with a major air base. When they are training over town you can't hear the person next to you speaking. They fly so low you can see the pilot.

Have seen quite a few sonic booms at the air shows here, the jets come in really low and fast along the beach and you see the cloud build up over the wings then hear that mighty roar as the jet tears through the sound barrier, followed by back flips and big afterburner displays

Makes me dream of being a fighter jet pilot... Except the going to war part of course

I was never bothered about flying planes as a kid, I kinda am now..

One of my school friends is in a certain famous Red display team, this was his Valentines day surprise to his wife this year. Takes some beating don't you think ladies. 8)

Wow - that's impressive. Not only is she married to a fast jet pilot, but he's sensitive and endearingly (carefully) reckless too - it's like real life Top Gun

Seriously, that's excellent. Have you not managed to convince him to take you up in the back seat yet ?

Not seen him in a while, although another schoolfriend sees him regularly, not been a great 12 months for them unfortunately.

Tbh, it made me more want to tell him I've got a pilot's license too whenever I next see him :)

Reading sars thoughts on her place in the wider universe reminded me of a link someone sent me a while back which I will share with you. Apologies if you have seen it before. If the represented information is accurate then we humans are but......well see for yourself.
