Something smells fishy....

In the last week ive been getting wafts of a smell inside my z4, reminiscent of a time when I was 15, in a local park after dark with a girl called Amy, needless to say I didn't venture there again, and I'm eager to get to the source of this smell so I can "wash my hands" of it in the same way.

I must admit to having had a few days old greggs in my car when the smell started but the car has been cleared of all rubbish for a few days and the smell still returns.

Other events include me accidentally opening the roof on my drive in the rain (alarm went off and I hastily pressed unlock a few times from inside the house, forgetting my gaptech, then noticed an hour or so later when it was soaked).

I also had engine management light at exactly 90K about 10 days ago, which read as a cat efficiency fault, I cleared the code and it hasn't returned. Could it be the cat smelling fishy?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Check for damp carpets footwells and behind the seats. Even if you cannot feel damp one easy test is to close all the windows and when the car has warmed in the sun and then cools down for evening, you'll see condensation on the glass.

Others possibilities as the washer fluid. Take the top off and smell that. It can go real rancid

Pollen filter behind the glovebox. They get real bad if not changed.

Decent interior valet on carpets & change the cabin filters / also may want to consider air-con re-gas & freshen up .
Plus check under & behind seats for the obvious semi eaten Greggs pastry :? also check boot for damp

An old trick might help
Wind up heating to max and run for a while,it kills the bacteria in A/C system
