Something missing in the battery tray?

Hi there.

I was trying to fit the Bluemusic bluetooth dongle today with zero success (I cannot get the bulkhead carpet out and it is rigid like the floor piece covering the battery tray) but while I had the boot floor cover up, I noticed something in the battery I hadn't seen before. There is a nut thread (circled in red) that looks like something should potentially be affixed to the battery tray compartment? Can anyone tell me what, if anything, would go in here between the battery and the rear of the car?

Thanks

Its a mount for the amp. Unless your car was specced with the uprated stereo system it wont have an amp.

FYI, mine doesn't have one either, this image is from Google.

Interesting Dan because my car has the DSP setup and subwoofers but there isn't an amplifier in that slot! I read there are three classes of stereo + the sat nav setup; maybe it depends on which spec?

The Amp was moved to the rear firewall at facelift. Probably due to them keep getting flooded in the battery compartment.

Interesting so basically dead space. I might stick the toolkit and bulb kit in there then, just wrap them in a dust cloth to avoid an annoying rattle. That Srhutch.

Correct, I stuck a tyre inflator and gunk in the gap on my old 2.5si.

Let me know how you get on as i am thinking of adding this or similar to my coupe.

Do you have the cd changer in the boot?

Hey Bobby. No to the CD changer. I have the professional DSP stereo so shed loads of speakers and an AUX IN under the dash. I haven't managed to get to the CD changer cable yet, will give it a go again this weekend.

Thanks for the reply.
I just got my z4 coupe. I have aux in and cd in the dash. I am going to do some digging to see what i have and go from there.
There are mixed reports on the dongles. Lots say great and lots say buzzing and interference.

I saw that someone recommended drilling a hole or two in the bottom of the battery tray, in case of water ingress into the boot. This stops the amp getting flooded.

Do you Lifers recommend this ?
(I don't have an amp, but I still wouldn't want a battery tray full of water.)

Yeah. Ditto tyre inflator

Do you guys have the BMW mobility kit or just compressors from Halfords, Amazon, et al?
Holts Tyre Weld and a Halfords Essentials Tyre inflator. Both from Halfords. Not had a reason to use either yet (touch wood) so no idea how good they are.

That’s what I did to mine. I can’t see any downside to drilling the holes.
