Don't know if this is appropriate but here goes....

I'm doing something new this weekend that I've never tried before, if I'm lucky and have prepared correctly it will go well even though it may well be a little painful. If I'm unlucky or my preparation hasn't been as good as I think it will be embarrassing and take ages to put right.

I'll probably get hot and sweaty in cramped spaces where the ability to move freely away from where I'm needed will be very difficult.

Hopefully I'll keep pace with the others and not let anyone down or get in the way. Hopefully I'll stay in time and arrive on schedule

I'm taking my old mini to the big city to take part in my first and probably last London to Brighton mini run.

:D :D :D

Good luck for the weekend. I'm sure it will all go well and you'll be fine. You'll enjoy every moment of it I bet

Crystal palace. Athletics not football. Starts at 8,00 but 2000 minis will take a few hours to shift.

Don't want to put too much of a dampener on your weekend (of fun), but the drive from CP to Brighton is possibly the worst 3 to 4 hours you will spend in a car. Brief (very brief) spurts of 20mph in traffic that is nose to tail. There will be more than 4000 cars doing the run, the official 2000 plus all those who did not get tickets but simply tag onto the run. Taking over an hour to drive the last 2 miles onto Madeira Drive is tedious.

We did the run the last 2 years, pre and post full restoration of our '69 mini, and despite the misery of the drive both runs were lots of fun. Stuck in stationary traffic (thanks to ever cautious plod) last year on the A23 (?) could have been horrible, but all the mini owners got out of their cars and chatted. All other drivers, in their air-conditioned, boxes, just sat with the windows closed wondering what was happening.

If you should be unlucky enough to break down on the run there is no shortage of people to help. But, don't expect any sympathy from plod. First year we came to a halt on the Croydon by-pass and within 2 minutes plod turned up saying 'You can't park here,' to which the honest answer was that we were not parked, but plod still departed, in a screech of spinning tyres, with a parting shot 'we will be back in 20 minutes and if you are not gone........'

Not going this year as the car suffered a cracked head a month ago and it has only just come back from the garage and I haven't had the chance to put a decent run under its wheels since it came out of hibernation.

thanks for the above, already been warned about the 'rolling car park' and have a plan. Don't know if it'll work or not, fingers crossed

We did it!

570 miles return, approx 50mpg at steady 55mph. Set off 12.30pm Saturday and just got home 11.30pm Sunday

35 hours

Took in ace cafe for dinner yesterday, photo op at Buck House, parliament and London eye.

Good go pro, and photo with big Ed China

Great trip

we see alot of the minis going down the A23, shame the run never drums up the crowds like the vintage run does :(

glad you made it :D
