Someones hit me car!

I had a similar situation recently - car was hit and needed one replacement wheel (also a CSL rep). BMW quoted the insurance company for a brand new MV2 which would have originally been on the car from the factory, and made it clear they could not themselves source a replacement for the current aftermarket wheel. I agreed with the insurance to have the quoted cost for a new wheel paid directly into my bank account which i used towards buying a new set of wheels. Of course you could use the money to buy a single wheel or have it refurbed.

Isn’t this the reason why they ask “has the vehicle been modified?”

Nope.

Most policies will only return to standard even with mods declared.

OP I would either take the new wheel in the box and sell it on, or the cash is an option. Then you can get you reps refurbed.

I agree ,op.
The cash option might be the best way to go?

Well you live and learn!
I’ve not been in that position as I’ve only had standard unmodified / off the shelf cars for many years now.

Makes you wonder why they charge more for mods if they are just going back to stock parts?

Before I take out a policy, I always clarify with the insurer that they will cover modified cars and that they replace modifications like for like rather than with OEM parts. In my experience, as often as not, the cheapest premiums are from companies that will replace modifications with the same part.
Of course, that wouldn’t get around the problem the OP describes, but the suggestion of taking the cash value of a new wheel or the wheel itself and selling it then using the money to refurbish all four wheels sounds like a good plan.

They will say that your car is more desirable when modded, so more likely to be stolen etc. That is why one reason you have to inform them.

I suspect many modified cars are driven more “enthusiastically” than their OEM equivalents too...

I have come to an arrangement with them, that they'll pay me the figure BMW quoted for the original wheel. I then can buy a set for (slightly) more, and replace the damaged wheel. What I do with the rest is up to me.

Never thought of mods on insurance. But I am claiming from the 3rd parties insurance, so it's not relevant if I've declared mods.

Anyway, I'm happy with the arrangement, although 'out of pocket' I'll have 4 brand new wheels for ~£50.

Would you not have a set of rep csl wheels to sell on afterwards? Albeit one with slight damage, which looks like a surface scuff.

Someone did the same to me and then drove away. Now I have a dash because of it. The worst thing was that I had the front bumper resprayed a few weeks earlier.

I got a door ding, albeit small, in a hotel car park while on holiday in Germany when the car was only a few months old. Sods Law I think.
