Someone reversed (slowly) in to me - what would you do?

Like many others have said....get it checked out
A car nudged into the back of me when I was in queuing traffic a few years ago.
I couldn't see any damaged and nearly left it at that, luckily I took his details anyway
Good job I did the impact absorbent material behind the bumper was cracked and therefore weakened.

If no damage has been done, i would just brush it under the carpet.
I know its bad but i dont think its worth the hassle TBH. It does annoy me though how some old people definatly shouldnt be on the road, i think all over 65's should redo your test at the cost of the DVLA. (first test free) I bet 90% of people would fail !
Statistics have repeatedly supported the fact that UK drivers, under the age of twenty five, have a far higher risk of being in a car accident than those over twenty five.

At least some of them can afford to drive something a bit more powerful than a 2.5

I remember being at a petrol station ages ago and seeing this Vantage pull up and this old guy got out could hardly walk fair play! good things come to those who wait....

Spoke to her about 20 minutes ago, she was coming back from bingo I think. She denied it! I said I had irrefutable evidence of her driving in to my car in the form of a video. She just turned away from me, didn't say anything and went about with her business.

Don't know what to do now...well, actually I'll get it checked first and take it from there. Grrr!!!

I think you need to be applauded for the way you have handled the situation so far.
I hope their is no hidden damage to your motor.

100%. I'd be livid!

Now you've spoken with her and she has clearly denied it either because she can't remember or didn't realise or just plain arrogant I would be taking the matter up with the police, not only is it a criminal offence today it's this, but what about tomorrow or next week when it happens again or worse. Or she hits someone or god forbid hits another car whilst someone is between the two cars and the impact pushes it into them. That could cripple someone.

If she knows she's done it she is breaking the law, or if she genuinely didn't realise she is dangerous.

If it was a 20/30 year old I bet you wouldn't think twice. Why treat someone differently due to their age? She'd be the first to accuse you I bet.

First what she did to your car was wrong ,by that i dont mean the accident they happen ,but her following actions of just walking away .
If she felt the bump she should report it .
If she didnt feel bump she should not be driving .
Either way she needs to accept responsibility,so get the car checked and either way I would report it to the police
Also respect due to you on your patience and calm.

Cheers all!

She didn't even apologise for it. How mean. I'm definitely being calm about it, too much rage in this world :) I wasn't threatening to her...she didn't appear to give a damn.

Going to get potential damage looked at, I'm sure this will amount to nothing, given the low impact, and that it was plastic bumper against plastic bumper. Still, if I had had my hand between our cars as it happened, I'm sure it'd have been broken...bones are weak though! Her 1100kg car pushed my 1300kg car...it's heavy objects bumping against each other, sometimes I forget that very obvious fact, and that like a few earlier posters said, damage can occur at very low velocities!

You've spoken to her, she has denied it. IMO, as others have said, you do need to get the police involved now and get a police report registered - you should normally do this within 24 hours of the incident anyways. Then let the police sort it and get the insurance details - in this case I wouldn't settle for her paying outside of an insurance claim. You should also phone your insurance company once you get a police reference number.

You may not see anything initially, but when you get your bumper off there may be cracking, creasing, damage to the impact bar etc. I would definitely get it to the dealers to get it checked out after.

I had similar when an elderly lady hit the front of my zed (twice!) scraping the paint off before giving my son (who was sat in the car whilst I was in the shop) a cheery wave as she drove off. Luckily he got the registration number, then came to tell me. I reported it immediately to the police, provided photos of the incident plus witness names, and let them sot it out. 3 hours later, one phone call (and an apology from her husband, she didn't realise she had hit me), and it was all sorted for payment. Sometimes there are benefits for not living in a city :D

To take another slant at it.... If there is no mark/ damage i would let it go... As accidents regardless of fault affect your insurance premium.

Purely for the principle of the matter it maybe worth taking the insurance hit... Just to teach her a lesson.

As said you need to have it checked - if there is no damage then just warn the old dear if she touches it again you will report her - if you go off down the cop shop armed with a video how she "bumped " your car but with no damage evident they wouldn't be too enamored in the great scheme of things ( although technically she has committed an offence )

If there is damage then it's another matter altogether.

I wouldn't report it to your insurer because of the obvious consequences re premium increase.

Annoying though it is there are far more things to worry about and this just may make things worse - at least , if she's 80 , you're going to live a lot longer than she is likely to

report report report.

If not for yourself, for some poor sod's car at bingo this crazy baffoon could reverse into and do some REAL damage.
Or.. that wee toddler on a scooter.

She's a menace (as you've said), she doesn't give a damn about other peoples property, and she doesn't give a damn that she's potentially putting lives at risk as she shouldn't be driving with her disability (not being able to look behind her..)

Report her. it's the RIGHT thing to do

As has all been said, report it as I'm sure it will happen again, if not to you then to someone else.

Have the car checked out - the fact yours moved is evidence enough that it needs looking at then present her with the bill to see if she wants to pay up without going through the insurers, if not then take it to them.

Hi All,

So I am going to contact BMW today to ask if they can check it - I am still under warranty (for another year in fact) but my excess is £100. I'm not sure how this will work - if it is going to cost me £100 to get it checked, should I then present her with that bill?

As I've said, I have irrefutable evidence she hit and moved my car, I also have footage of her lumbering out of her car - it's unmistakably her.
