Someone keyed our car today Update: Now with Photos

Sorry to hear this.... hope it isnt too much of an inconvenience.

why do these people do such things... they should do something constructive, not destructive.

I think it is about powerlessness.

The culprits feel they are unimportant, not taken seriously enough. By damaging a fancy BMW and therefore hurting someone they perceive to be more successful than them they assert their potency. This brings them joy. Not that they understand what motivates their behaviour.

Knobs basically.

edit - sorry to hear about your car,

Thanks for all the support

I'll try and get some photos up today.

I haven't had a good look yet, but the car will need spot painting. Even if the scratches don't go through the clear, I want it painted level not sanded down. I'm looking for body shop recommendations in NW England or North Wales.

Our insurance is with Saga. I'll give the policy a careful reading. I'll wait and see how much the estimates are before deciding to claim it or not. Our voluntary excess is £250. I hope the repair won't be much more than that.

Very sorry to hear this. It happened to my last car so I know how you feel. Thankfully it was somewhere I rarely visited. I remember trying to work out if I had done anything to provoke it but as others have said I concluded it was just some jealous asshole. Hope it doesn't cost too much. :x

This is bad news and something that I dread every day.

Just one thought - you say you washed it day before...are you sure it wasn't crap cought on your washmit? I seriously doubt that, but just a thought.

When I had paintwork on my E90 years ago, they said it was about £175 a panel, but obviously the roof is two panels, but each much smaller.

Although annoying, you've spotted it quickly, so can narrow down where you've been....possible cctv?

Hope it gets sorted (which it will do, its just horrible during the process cos of the bad feeling). I'd recommend a BMW approved bodyshop, then you know there won't be any warranty issues later down the road.

Shocking, so that's the second white e89 that has been keyed recently, gutted for you....

It wasn't from the wash. I would have spotted that during my walk around. I always give the car a good look over to make sure I haven't missed anything.

It either happened at Ysbyty Gwynedd (hospital) or at work. I had a doctors appointment mid-day. After that I parked the car in a lot next the building where I work. Debbie noticed the scratches right away when she went out to the car at the end of the day.

Depending on how deep, you may get away with filling the scratches with clear then wet sanding back to flat and a polish to bring it back to life. Maybe have a word with a good detailer.

Try calling Steve @ http://www.mirrorfinishautodetailing.co.uk - he's a really nice guy with a very good reputation on DetailingWorld.

its a crying shame but yellow cars stand out so much and are a magnet for vandalism especially if they are sports cars. really feel for you as it happened to a yellow car i had which was keyed

Totally gutted for you, what a bunch of :wkr:

Envy, his car is DSB so fairly low key colour, if you'll excuse the pun...

The trials of having a nice car. If you decide not to have one for fear of it being vandalised or stolen, the low life win. And if you do, these can be the consequences.
You're damned if you do, and damned if you dont

Sorry to hear Andrew. Its the whole reason I am banking the £700 dealership credit for this. I know my car will get keyed in my area. Mind you my street isnt the only fancy white sports car there are 3 or 4 others.

Let us know how you get on!
