Someone broke my mirror :(

Bad day...looks like somebody forced the mirror out when it was folded in. Why anybody would want to do that I don't know but it's happened and now I'm left with a broken mirror and this look on my face :x

It feels like the motor has broken as none of the electrics work (fold or angle adjustment) and the mirror its self feels very loose on the arm.

Does anybody know if the motor/electronics can be purchased separately? Or will I have to purchase the entire assembly? any recommended resellers?

Cheers

It sounds expensive.

Could you claim for vandalism on your insurance?

Good call I could yes, but was worried about claiming and its impact on my no claims etc :( That being said, your post has just prompted me to check my policy wording document and I have just found the following, so looks like it could be an option (Thank you :)) The £75 excess would be alot easier to swallow than the many hundreds I would expect to pay for a new mirror

Vandalism promise
If you make a claim for your car as a result of vandalism which is a malicious and
deliberate act, you will not lose your no-claim discount. This is subject to the following
conditions being met:
1. The excess is paid.
2. You report the incident to the Police and provide us with your crime reference
number.
Malicious damage is specifically excluded to your car as a result of a deliberate act by
anybody insured by the policy. Your no-claim discount will be affected until such time as
you provide us with your crime reference number

Be careful
Your no claims may not be affected but you can bet your bottom dollar the premium will rise next year as you have had a claim.

Yup. The whole premise of a no claims bonus is rubbish. You will have to declare that you made a claim, even though your NCD was unaffected and they will bump premiums up for the next 5 years until you no longer have to declare it.

Had this with my girlfriends policy renewal recently. She forgot to mention about a non-fault incident in a works car park which happened while she away from the car. The insurer in question refused to allow purchase online, we phoned up to pay and they told us that we couldn't proceed with the quote until we declared the non-fault accident (they had all the details on their database). The premium then went up by £300.

Best to just keep things outside insurance unless they are hugely expensive.

I do agree with the above comments.

But worth looking at all options.

I had a mirror (none folding) replaced under warranty and it was about £300

Have a look at removing the mirror and see if you can take it apart. Have a look on ebay, plenty on there

Thanks for advice guys and warnings about the insurance route. I've done a bit of research today and looks like I could get a full second-hand unit for about £150-£200 (in the wrong colour) but my hope is I can just swap for housing out with my existing one.

I'm currently trying to find the part number for the arm alone (where the motor sits) to see if that comes in any cheaper...

@unknownz4 - Thanks for the site, ill take a look

These are on ebay UK and are power fold.

I broke just the glass part of the mirror and got a bit of shock when ringing BMW as I was quoted about £350 just for the glass. Thankfully I managed to find a glass that fitted on top of the broken glass and you cannot really tell.

Perfect thank you, been calling round a few scrap yards whilst waiting for payday (after what seems like the longest month ever) but most dont have any e89 parts or are not power fold :( Ill go with the eBay approach i think, cheers :)

Hi Guys, so bit of a thread revival here..so I have purchased a used nearside power fold mirror off eBay, fitted it and it’s not working :(

I wanted to test if the new mirror was working all ok so I connected it to the offside electrics and mirror operates and folds without issue?

So obviously something else is wrong here. Any ideas at all?

So I have just checked what I think are fuses, 09 and 66 (according to the diagram I found on the Internet) 09 is present and all ok, and 66 isn’t there.

Assuming I have checked the right fuses (which I may not have done) the only next thing I can think of it the wiring somehow, which I find hard to believe to be a root cause.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated 😊 (images attached)
