If he admits fault his insurer won't pay out, which will probably make it worse for the person he ran into. Expressing regret without admitting liability is quite difficult (I don't mean impossible, just that it's beyond most people's command of english when they've got three pints of adrenaline running through them).GAZA62 said:What happened there then :x :x is he taking the piss.
As for damage; I had someone run into the back of me about 18 months ago (I was sat at a roundabout give way line, had been for about 90 seconds, a Corsa trundles up behind me and just runs into me on an otherwise empty dual-carriageway). The shunt wasn't very had but enough to hear it, had it checked at the stealer and there was no structural damage (including the crash box). The only damage was a light scuff to the bumper above the number plate, which polished out. So you can get away without major problems, but from the testimony on this thread it sounds like pot luck as to whether you do.
strictly speaking that isnt true, i used to work for norwich union / rac insurance taking car claims, it didnt matter about who accepts liability as the 2 companies sort that out, bottom line is if someone goes into your rear they are at fault. what you should never do is allow them to suggest you take it to a "mates" garage - always report it to the insurance company and let them sort it, you can even go to a main dealer if you wish, but dont expect a hire car!
