What happened there then :x :x is he taking the piss.
Well, I know it's annoying but what do you expect him to say; "Sorry for running into you, it was my fault"? If he admits fault his insurer won't pay out, which will probably make it worse for the person he ran into. Expressing regret without admitting liability is quite difficult (I don't mean impossible, just that it's beyond most people's command of english when they've got three pints of adrenaline running through them).

As for damage; I had someone run into the back of me about 18 months ago (I was sat at a roundabout give way line, had been for about 90 seconds, a Corsa trundles up behind me and just runs into me on an otherwise empty dual-carriageway). The shunt wasn't very had but enough to hear it, had it checked at the stealer and there was no structural damage (including the crash box). The only damage was a light scuff to the bumper above the number plate, which polished out. So you can get away without major problems, but from the testimony on this thread it sounds like pot luck as to whether you do.

strictly speaking that isnt true, i used to work for norwich union / rac insurance taking car claims, it didnt matter about who accepts liability as the 2 companies sort that out, bottom line is if someone goes into your rear they are at fault. what you should never do is allow them to suggest you take it to a "mates" garage - always report it to the insurance company and let them sort it, you can even go to a main dealer if you wish, but dont expect a hire car!

It's gutting isn't it, when you go out of your way to look after your pride and joy, only for some moron to come by and hit it.

My story is probably just as bad, and slightly humurous. My partner's dad was borrowing our 120D a couple of weeks ago (against my knowledge) while we were at the inaugral Brisbane International tennis tournament and went to park it beside my 3.0si Coupe (we only got the Z4 the week before Christmas) and hit it. So both our cars in one fowl swoop, done by my father in law..... Luckily there are only scratches, and repairs will be underway within a week through insurance, but my god I can tell you, for a few hours there all I could think about was how I could get away with bludgoening the halfwit without anyone ever tracing it back to me!

Are his insurance company providing you with a replacement car? If so, is it like for like? If it isn't, tell them you'll let an accident management company deal with your claim. When someone drove into the back of my Z4C, I got a Z4M Roadster whilst mine was being repaired. :driving:

I concur. I used Accident Direct (recommended via York BMW) and they delivered a 3.0 Z4 Roadster within 24hrs.

ah, the one with the SatNav system, and ever since you have been unhappy with your car :P

Is that aimed at me? If so - how on earth do you know that?! I still look back on those days with the M with wistful longing

I see and know everything ...

(actually, it was aimed and Sp3ctre as I knew he had that ...)

In which case - accident management companies can be a bitter sweet experience - they plant the seeds of desire in weak willed hearts :(

Worst influence is the forum though - I would never had sold my 3.0 and bought an M if I had not met the guys with the M's ...

I have refused a courtesy car, my Z is not a daily driver so I don't need one. I just want the repairs done properly. If I hadn't got a like for like replacement, it would have sat on my drive getting in the way. My Z is perfectly driveable, so I'm going to use it until it is in the bodyshop for the couple of days needed to fix it.
